Tate McRae @ Entertainment Centre, Adelaide 15/11/2024
The Adelaide Entertainment Centre absolutely roared last night for Canadian superstar Tate McRae. Seriously, I have never heard a crowd scream so loud for an artist. It’s really no surprise that they had to upgrade the Adelaide venue due to demand. The crowd was filled with young female fans, identifying specifically as ‘Tater Tots’ – many of which were accompanied by their parents to see their Gen Z idol.
Tate McRae has been touring Australia, conveniently at the same time as her famous Aussie boyfriend, The Kid Laroi, on her Think Later World Tour. With just a week to go before the international tour wraps up, you would have never thought she’d already performed sixty shows this year.
The pop sensation admitted to her Adelaide audience that her voice was ‘non-existent’ and encouraged them to help her sing her lyrics, although none of us would have ever been able to tell that she was struggling. Her unique vocals sounded effortless, even with the demanding choreography that accompanied her famous tracks.
I expected there to be a fair amount of lip-syncing having seen some of her dance routines prior to the show on social media, but Tate McRae proved that you really can do both. Her ability to hold notes and dance without sounding one bit breathless was massively impressive and, as we all know, would require a high level of stamina and skill.
Tate belted out some of her biggest songs from her most recent Think Later album, including Exes, Guilty Conscience, and Grave which had been recently added to the setlist.
We were also treated to some of her most famous singles such as Uh Oh, 10:35 and her 2020 hit You Broke Me First which is arguably what made her an international star.
Tate was also promoting her new album due to be released in February 2025, titled So Close To What. Fans went wild for the teasers of her new music 2 hands and It’s ok I’m ok.
It was raining confetti as she closed the show with Greedy, her most successful track on Spotify with more than 1.5 billion streams to date.
I left the Adelaide Entertainment Centre an even bigger fan than I was when I went in. Tate McRae is an absolute master in this industry and she’s only twenty one. Having trained in dance since the age of six, getting signed at just sixteen and famously writing her own lyrics, she has an entire generation in the palm of her hands and is on track for even more success. Watch this space as believe it or not she is only just getting started.
