Diamond Construct, Prompts, Deficit @ Lion Arts Factory, Adelaide 12/10/2024

It might have been a small crowd in the front bar of Lion Arts Factory to see Diamond Construct but they were enthusiastic, energetic, passionate and fiercely loyal above all else about their band. Right from the get go the fans were in to it and it didn’t matter how small the space is it didn’t deter many a circle pit throughout the evening. For the fans it was definitely a value for money bill as well with Prompts from Japan and Sydney’s Deficit. It was all about Diamond Construct though who are hot off the heels with their sophomore release Angel Killer Zero and there is no doubt they are on the cusp of breaking through in a much bigger way. Being the second show in this was Adelaide’s chance to hear these songs live.

Nu-metalcore outfit DEFICIT from Sydney have a lot going for them and are building a solid reputation for leaving nothing on the table as far as their live set goes. It might have only been thirty minutes or so but intensity their bring to their music is admirable. Walking in I was lucky to avoid being swept up in the mayhem as a circle pit got going. As Danny Glover said, “I’m too old for that shit!” Set closer No Love, All Hate was a clear highlight.

Prompts were impressive and they have plenty of stage presence and it seemed as if they were playing in a stadium of fifty thousand people. Bold, brash, kicking things up ten fold in terms of energy and setting the bar incredibly high for Diamond Construct. Described as progressive deathcore/ metalcore they will be without a shadow of a doubt a band we will be hearing a lot more about in future and the band did they say they plan on returning in 2025. It was a fast and rampaging opening with Face Me and Möbius. There wasn’t a lot said apart of the occasional thank you and encouraging the crowd to go hard whipping up a frenzy, splitting “the pit” with the crowd going primal with the smashing of bodies. Plenty of power and big songs in Edgerunner, Asphyxiate and Empty Sandglass.

It has been a big year for Diamond Construct with a new album in the bag. Vocalist Kynan Groundwater wasted no time encouraging the fans to come in close powering their way through two of the big songs from Angel Killer Zero with the metalcore dubstep vibe Hasira and continuing that energy and flow on Jynx. Set staples for sure! It was stand alone single Hit It Back that got the crowd going before pulling out a couple more new ones in Neon and Zodiac Memories that pack plenty of punch. With Kynan asking the crowd to give him their energy promising to give it back and more in new tune Faded. Their old and new songs hung together with I Don’t and Clickbait then pulling out older classics such as Animus and Attitude which they have not played in five years.

There wasn’t much left from the new album that had not been played with Switchblade OST and Hell Inside You being well received. With one last chance to go hard it was Psychosis from the DCX2 EP to bring their set to a close. With the crowd chanting for more it would have been hard to end it on that with the band returning for an encore. Given a choice it was Hit It Back that was given another go much to delight of the crowd who cut loose one more time. Definitely look forward to what comes next for Diamond Construct.
