The Jesus And Mary Chain’s New Single ‘Pop Seeds’ Is Out Now

Earlier this year, The Jesus and Mary Chain made a high impact return with the critically adored Glasgow Eyes. Released via Fuzz Club, it debuted at #7 on the UK Official Album Chart and also shot straight to #1 on both the Independent and Scottish Albums Charts. Now the Reid brothers release a new song that was captured during the album sessions in the shape of Pop Seeds.

Named in reference to the original band name they briefly shared over forty years ago, Pop Seeds is a nostalgic evocation of the shared psychic landscape which led to the formation of The Jesus and Mary Chain, and which Jim and William depict in their new memoir Never Understood. Capturing a very different ambience to the darker, often electronica-tinged vibe of the Glasgow Eyes set, the breezy psychedelia of Pop Seeds captures the optimism of two young men on the cusp of a future full of possibilities.

Pop Seeds adds to the anticipation for the long-awaited Never Understood biography, which is available to buy HERE. It sees William and Jim Reid tell the full story of one of Britain’s greatest guitar bands for the very first time – a wildly funny and improbably moving chronicle of brotherly strife, feedback, riots, drug and alcohol addiction, eternal outsiders and extreme shyness, that also somehow manages to be a love letter to the Scottish working-class family.

Never Understood will also be released in two limited edition formats. The Record Store Edition will feature alternate artwork and will be housed in a bespoke slipcase packaged, all designed by William Reid. It will be limited to 1500 copies and will be released on October 3rd. The White Rabbit Edition follows on November 21st, which adds a 12” vinyl featuring audio book extracts and four exclusive postcards. Each copy of the 500-run pressing will be signed by both William and Jim Reid.

The Jesus and Mary Chain have spent much of 2024 touring extensively, with highlights including two sold-out London shows at the Roundhouse, a headline set at Roadburn, and international shows as far afield as Australia, Japan and North America. Their gigs have earned widespread praise, including The Telegraph (“felt less like a return to form and more like the start of a new era”), The Skinny (“the brothers Reid can still conjure the magic that made their band such a revelation 40 years ago”) and Louder Than War (“a band as prophetic, powerful and timeless as they always bloody knew”).

Next up is a 27-date North American co-headline tour with The Psychedelic Furs before they return to the UK for the following headline shows. Please see HERE for a ticket information a list of all international shows.
