What’s the best and worst part about being a solo artist?
Being a solo artist is great because it allows me to explore whatever comes to my mind creatively. I think having the freedom to change directions or create something that isn’t typical for me really keeps the creative process exciting and has allowed me to learn so much as an artist. I’m lucky to have fantastic people around me who have contributed significantly to my development and the music I create, so I guess I get the best of both worlds sometimes. Getting to play with them live on tour recently and at BigSound is an absolute pleasure.
If you could support any act in the world, who would it be and why?
I have a lot of artists who have inspired me to create music. I would have to say, having the opportunity to support Tame Impala would be really special. I have so much respect for Kevin Parker and his work. I think he would be such a great person to talk to about music.
If you could’ve only written one song from your repertoire, which would it be? What makes it so special?
The song that I would choose is, ‘all you ever wanted’. This is latest song that I have released. I feel like it is a nice blend of all my influences and as a whole really showcases who I am as an artist right now. I feel that I was able to express thoughts that I have been having for some time now. I was able to talk about not taking things in life for granted and that happiness comes from within, the relationship and connections you make and the things you love.
How important has music been in your journey of becoming who you are today?
Music has been an important part of my life from such an early age. I have loved it ever since I picked up a guitar. I think that it has helped shape my identity as well as allowed me to meet so many wonderful people. Music has been a great outlet for me and has taken me around the country and the world. I think the best thing about music is how it transcends borders, language and cultures. Playing my first festival in Europe later this year is going to be a big moment!
Where do you see yourself and your music in ten years time?
I like to takes things one step at a time. I feel that I will always be creating and enjoying the journey. I see making music that I love and sharing it with people as part of the plan and I hope it continues to take me to new experiences.
