Metal Mix Tape Volume 10
Let there be metal! Have a look to see who made Metal Mix Tape Volume Ten:
They say a change is as good as a holiday, and for Melbourne heavy metal boy band Banks Arcade, a hypnotic diversion is just what the doctor ordered with their brand new single Change out now via UNFD.
A second new Banks Arcade single for 2023 Change follows on from the recent blazing track Worship The Internet, with the latest outing offering a glamorous, dark and downright scintillating stylistic pivot from the Melbourne group alongside a brand new music video.
With lush textures, undulating beats and seductive vocals set against sharp and glossy production, Change flits between simmering verses and tempestuous choruses as vocalist Joshua O’Donnell declares: “Please just walk away | Safe to fight another day | I don’t want you to stay tonight | But you could change my mind”.
Speaking on their latest single Change, Banks Arcade share: “Change discusses an unhealthy obsession with success, and a fleeting relationship driven by lust that is held back because of it.”
With their dynamic live shows and positive energy propelling them to peak underground popularity, Drain’s sophomore record LIVING PROOF is a testament to the hard work and heartfelt ethos at the centre of their good-time psyche. Released via Epitaph earlier this year, the album has already surpassed 10 Million streams to date and received praise from Forbes, The FADER, Stereogum, Revolver and more.
After hitting the road for a massive headlining tour with sold out shows in Europe, Japan and the US – including plays at Furnace Fest and Riot Fest, along with an upcoming headline tour of Australia this December- the Santa Cruz trio share the music video for the title track of the record.
Coined “a natural pit-starter” according to Loudwire, the video was shot on Super 8 film by Ryan and Alice Baxley during one of their rowdy tour dates. It captures the pure energy, chaos and unity infused into a legendary Drain show; a mic-grabbing, stage-diver’s delight.
“Living Proof serves as a culmination of everything that the record stands for. As our closing statement to the album, I wanted something that would feel larger than life when it’s sung by a whole crowd. I wanted to write something uplifting but honest and real, and I think that this was the vibe for the whole record, but especially for this track. I was envisioning the live show setting and the whole crowd screaming “HERE AND NOW…THIS IS LIVING PROOF” and getting chills thinking about how cool that would be. A room full of people yelling that this specific moment in time is proof that we are right where we are supposed to be in this world and in this life. So sick.
My favourite part of the video is actually the very ending. We thought it would be cool to fade the record out by slowing down the tape while we just ring some notes out, KISS style haha. All the love and respect from us, I hope ya’ll enjoy the video. YOU are living proof!”
DIMMU BORGIR release their cover of DEEP PURPLES’s Perfect Strangers. The song is featured on their upcoming cover album Inspiratio Profanus which will be released on December 8th via Nuclear Blast Records.
Silenoz states about the cover of Perfect Strangers: “The idea of doing Perfect Strangers came about quite a while before we actually got around to recording it. It’s a known song by a very well known band that has influenced many to pick up an instrument. I mean, is there anyone who doesn’t like Deep Purple?! We incorporated our little twist to it while at the same time wanted to stay close to the original. But perhaps it is the more obvious aspects that come to mind when hearing it; the integration between the main musical elements that we also made use of since the beginning like keyboards and guitars.”
Silenoz comments about the album Inspiratio Profanus: “We’re pleased to announce the Inspiratio Profanus release! We thought it was about time to finally compile the cover songs we’ve done over the years and give these renditions an updated mastering, all in one package, highlighting some of our many influences!”
Corporate greed. Sharky politicians. Climate out-of-control. Questionable government interests. All of it comes to a head in Al Jourgensen’s latest diatribe against the system, Just Stop Oil.
The brand-new track – from MINISTRY’s upcoming 16th studio album HOPIUMFORTHEMASSES – is shared alongside a visually stimulating music video that begs for action for the benefit of our collective future.
Says Jourgensen of the track: “MINISTRY approves this message and the movement behind it. ENOUGH is ENOUGH!”
GREEN LUNG’s third studio album, This Heathen Land, was released last week via Nuclear Blast Records. To celebrate, the band have revealed a new video for the track Hunters In The Sky, and revealed a host of UK/European tour dates for 2024 with support from LOWEN and SPIRIT ADRIFT.
Tom Templar comments “We’re deeply grateful to everyone who has supported the release of THIS HEATHEN LAND over the past week, whether by listening to the album, picking it up in a record shop or spreading the word online – it’s been a joy to see it connect with you all. To celebrate the album release we have one final music video to share with you all.
‘Hunters in the Sky’ was inspired by the Right to Roam movement, who protested the banning of wild camping on Dartmoor last summer. It’s a song about standing up to the English aristocracy’s attempts to control our common land, and a celebration of the beautiful Dartmoor landscape, from Wistman’s Wood to Crockern Tor. We’d always wanted to write a song about the Wild Hunt, one of the most dramatic European folkloric motifs, and hopefully we’ve done it justice. We hope you enjoy it – and huge thanks to Billy Price for directing this and all the other videos for this album, and to Blackthorn Ritualistic Folk for dancing in the video and supplying some incredible folk costumes, especially a truly majestic replica of the Dorset Ooser, who you might see on stage with us soon..”
On July 14, metal legends CAVALERA released the re-recorded versions of SEPULTURA’s first EP Bestial Devastation and their first full-length album Morbid Visions via Nuclear Blast Records.
The band offers fans the lyric video created by Costin Chioreanu for Necromancer from the Bestial Devastation EP.
Max Cavalera states, “‘Necromancer’ stands out on the EP. The new version and video bring to life the magic that started 40 years ago. I consider it my first ‘big’ song!”
Iggor Cavalera comments, “’Necromancer’ is a very special song for me, it is such a powerful force of riffs, beats, and screams. The video has a super cool vibe, dark and creepy.”
Portland’s own DYING WISH will release their new album Symptoms of Survival on November 3 via SharpTone Records.
“Path to Your Grave was written in mind as ‘Fragments Part Two,'” says Emma Boster. “‘Fragments’ is written about my struggle of my relationship with my stepfather, who was manipulative, controlling, and abusive towards me. That mistreatment has resulted in a lot of unhealthy habits and patterns in my life that I have struggled to move on from. ‘Fragments One’ was me talking about my experience publicly for the first time. After expressing my grief, the song concludes with ‘I would bury you if I could.’ This song also concludes with the same seven words but has a different outlook. Since releasing ‘Fragments,’ I have grown to a new level of acceptance with my trauma and this song is about that acceptance. The anger and the hurt is still there, but now, it just stings a little less. It has a much more triumphant expression.”
Premier rock outfit PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS have revealed a new video for their track, Maniac, ahead of their headline UK tour that kicks off this November.
The band comments “We dedicate this song to anyone who’s pissed you off today, yesterday and probably tomorrow too. We’ll see you all on our upcoming UK tour!”
After existing as a band for over 18 years, CARNIFEX continue to experiment with fresh song arrangements, and adding a unique sense of atmosphere to their inherently deathcore foundation. Nourished by nightmares and the throbbing pulse of pragmatic terror, CARNIFEX return with their ninth full-length studio album, Necromanteum, which is out now via Nuclear Blast Records. Accompanying the release, the band delivers the track video for the single, Infinite Night Terror.
Back with a crushing anthem, LAMB OF GOD unleash a brand-new single entitled Evidence. The GRAMMY® Award-nominated metal titans originally recorded the song during the sessions for their acclaimed 2022 opus and ninth full-length LP, Omens. They’ve uncovered it in honour of the latter’s one-year anniversary.
Regarding the single, vocalist Randy Blythe shared, “One of the more baffling aspects of modern-day life is the conscious rejection of empirical facts in favour of Internet echo chamber emotional security blankets. Truth is not subjective, no matter how uncomfortable that makes some people. Art is though, so enjoy the song, however you may choose to interpret it.”
Swedish progressive psychedelic rock band GAUPA has released a video for new digital single, Moloken (Live At Monkey Moon Studios). It’s an excerpt from an intimate studio session the band played in late May 2023. Following their much-lauded appearances at both Desertfest London and Desertfest Berlin, GAUPA went to Monkey Moon Recordings in Dortmund, Germany and recorded three songs live over the course of an afternoon, Moloken from their critically acclaimed most recent album Myriad as well as a breathtakingly intense 11-minute joint version of their songs Sömnen and Febersvan, the former also from Myriad, the latter taken off of GAUPA’s self-titled first EP. You can listen to the full session at all digital streaming services.
Stockholm based heavy rock megalith LUCIFER have announced the release date of their magnificent new album, LUCIFER V, which is due out on January 26th, 2024 on Nuclear Blast Records. Consisting of nine unholy hymns, LUCIFER’s fifth offering can easily be regarded as their magnum opus and sees the band channelling all their strengths known from previous records into one monumental mass of electrifying heavy rock and roll.
And since All Hallows’ Eve draws nigh, LUCIFER have shared a thematically fitting video for new single, At The Mortuary, a most delightful treat with several tricks up its sleeve. Witness this Sabbathian mass in glorious black-and-white which revolves around all things that really matter – love, death and dancing in graveyards.
The wait is over! New York death metal legends SUFFOCATION unleash their ninth full-length album Hymns From The Apocrypha via Nuclear Blast.
The band offers fans the third track Delusions of Mortality which combines progressive melodies and Ricky Myer’s monstrous vocals. Check out the 3D lyric video created by Tamara of Aimed & Framed.
SUFFOCATION’s Ricky Myers comments, “‘Delusions of Mortality’ is the third single off our new album HYMNS FROM THE APOCRYPHA. The lyrical content pertains to these dimensional beings granting us ancient scriptures scribed of our true origin, purpose, and the reason why humanity was created. Revealing knowledge that is too much for man to comprehend but at the same time, it allows mankind to remove the veil and see the truth. This existence is nothing but a delusion.”
Murdersome metal trailblazers, Ice Nine Kills brought the latest chapter of their expansive cinematic universe to a brutal and sinister end recently as they premiered brand new Silence of The Lambs inspired single and video Meat & Greet at an immersive event, hosted by INK frontman and maniacal mastermind, Spencer Charnas and entertainment journalist, Ryan J Downey that was globally live streamed from The Montalbán Theatre in Hollywood, CA.
Dubbed Ice Nine Kills Presents: Meat & Greet: The Horrorwood Saga Comes To A TASTEFUL End, the delicious event marked the launch of Meat & Greet as part of a premiere screening of Ice Nine Kills’ complete Horrorwood Saga film. Composed of all eight of their official music videos from 2021’s chart topping album, The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood. This marked the first time the pieces of the Horrorwood puzzle were presented together as one cohesive film and gave fans both in attendance and watching around the world, the first look at the unsettling and blood soaked end to the epic saga with the addition of the brand new, final act – Meat & Greet.
The unveiling of DORO PESCH´s latest magnum opus, Conqueress – Forever Strong and Proud.
This album release also celebrates the 40-year anniversary of the Metal Queen and is not only a musical journey, but a testimony to resilience, strength and unwavering passion.
Conqueress – Forever Strong And Proud is a phenomenal album and the result of intensive hard work that took the incomparable singer and songwriter back to the studios of Miami, New York, and Hamburg, among other places. The album impressively confirms that DORO is at the height of her creative powers.
Included in this extraordinary release is a mind-blowing version of the smash hit Total Eclipse of the Heart, where DORO once again joined forces with the Metal God himself, Rob Halford from JUDAS PRIEST.
Witness the fusion of two iconic voices as they breathe new life into this classic hit, creating a rendition that will send shivers down your spine.

Australia’s heavy music vanguards Northlane have shared their expansive new single, Dante, out now via Believe. Dante is the first piece of new music since the release of their #1 album Obsidian (2022) and signals a new era for the four-piece.
Dante is an instant Northlane classic years in the making. Dubbed by the band as ‘4D on steroids’, Dante was originally written by guitarist / songwriter Jon Deiley as a pure dance track not intended for Northlane. The band spent a year developing the song to fit their signature sound, resulting in an emotionally heavy track carried by a compulsive beat that opens up to a panoramic chorus.
The striking lyrics carry a lot of weight, as frontman Marcus Bridge explains: “Dante is a song about losing someone close to us. As we try to process our grief, we are constantly asking ourselves questions, memories clouded with reminders of our loved one’s pain, wondering if there’s anything we could have done.”
After nearly two decades, the wait is over! East Bay thrash metal legends SADUS have returned with a massively anticipated new album, The Shadow Inside, out now from Nuclear Blast Records. It’s been 17 long years since the release of their last full-length, Out For Blood (2006), and the band sounds just as viciously vital as the day they first lit up audiences almost 40 years ago!
Recorded with Juan Urteaga (EXODUS, TESTAMENT, MACHINE HEAD) at Trident Studios, The Shadow Inside is a merciless masterclass of thrash with blistering tracks like Scorched And Burnt, It’s The Sickness and Ride The Knife, that further cement the band’s metal legacy.
SADUS aims attention towards another standout track, Anarchy, which is accompanied by the brutal video below.
Swedish metal virtuosos AMARANTHE break through the grey November clouds, ready to cure your seasonal blues with their new uplifting track Outer Dimensions!
Once again, high energy vibes paired with a catchy chorus and garnished with some heavy riffs and impressive growls, this song is determined to live up to its name and take the listener to higher spaces.
AMARANTHE’s Olof Mörck states: “Dimensions and galaxies collide in our latest single ‘Outer Dimensions’, which takes you on a journey from the introspective and obscure, all the way to a sparkling cosmos of an epic chorus! We feel that it showcases ‘The Catalyst’s diversity, all in one track, while remaining very recognisably AMARANTHE. The song is masterfully counterpointed by a tour de force of a video, directed by long time collaborator Patric Ullaeus – so let us bring you the furthest reaches of your imagination with ‘Outer Dimensions’ soon!”
Newly signed SHARPTONE RECORDS band POST PROFIT — Matt Jackson [vocals, guitar], Nick Hawner [guitar +vocals], and Zach Hicks [drums + vocals] — release their six-song EP Self Defeater out now, via SharpTone Records.
“With Two Toxic, we wanted to do something different and show a more emotional side with what we call an ‘anti’ love song,” the band says. “Lyrically, it touches on the feeling of being in love, but also highlights the negative effects that often come with it. We put aggressive driving guitars and accents up against gentle delicate moments to resemble that push and pull effect.”
The band continues, “We’re excited for you all to hear this song and the rest of the EP Self Defeater in its fullness. We’ve poured our heart, soul, and emotion into it and we hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we did creating it for you. Thank you so much.”
Bleed From Within have had an extraordinary year. They’ve just stepped off of the Lamb Of God Headbangers Boat cruise, following on from a colossal summer run which took in both headline shows, performances with Heaven Shall Burn and festival appearances at the likes of Brutal Assault (Czech Republic), Summer Breeze (Germany) and Alcatraz (Belgium), finishing up with a 13-date tour supporting Trivium across the UK. This was all on top of a hugely successful debut American tour earlier this year with August Burns Red and The Devil Wears Prada.
To celebrate this exceptional year, Bleed From Within have released their Shrine Deluxe Edition now, alongside a new single titled Overthrone, which is accompanied by a lyric video.
Their stunning latest studio album Shrine was released in summer 2022, marking the band’s most groundbreaking work to-date and staking out Bleed From Within’s bold intent. The Scottish 5-piece claiming their position as the most exciting prospect in modern metal.
Steven Jones from the band stated,
”Upon releasing ‘Shrine’ in June 2022, it’s safe to say that none of us expected what the following months would bring. It’s been a hell of a year, with our most rigorous touring schedule yet putting us in places we’ve dreamed of since we started the band. This era of Bleed From Within is something we have worked so hard toward, and in this moment we are extremely grateful to all those who have made it possible. To all of our fans who fill the rooms and sing the words, to the team behind the scenes who keep the cogs moving on tour, in the studio and everywhere between, and to the creative minds that help us bring our music to life – thank you. 17 months since its original release, we are so proud to now present this limited and deluxe edition of ‘Shrine’, featuring all of the songs that were recorded during the sessions. Here’s to the months and years ahead.’’
The new live album, Die In Fire – Live In Hell, by ruthless Swedish black metal collective WATAIN is out NOW through Nuclear Blast Records.
After 25 years of madness and mayhem that manifested in seven studio albums, WATAIN‘s intense and much talked-about live rituals remain in a league of their own. Experience the raw power and fiery precision captured perfectly on this live recording from a sold out show that took place in October 2022 in Stockholm, and features fan favourites from albums such as Casus Luciferi, Lawless Darkness, The Wild Hunt, Trident Wolf Eclipse and of course the band’s latest offering, The Agony And Ecstasy of Watain, as well as the BATHORY cover The Return Of Darkness And Evil. The audio was recorded by Jamie Elton and mastered by Tore Stjerna at Necromorbus Studio.
With all artwork created by vocalist and front man Erik Danielsson, Die in Fire – Live in Hell is not only a sonic but also a visual reflection of WATAIN’s touring cycle for The Agony & Ecstasy of Watain, and beyond that a symbol of gratitude for their loyal followers worldwide! Die in Fire – Live in Hell is a very personal release dedicated to all those who have joined WATAIN on their path of lawless black metal darkness during the past 25 years.
Erik Danielsson (vocals) commented:
”With the videos for the live album we have attempted to convey at least a fraction of the primal psychedelic malevolence that possess us when we perform. The majority of the footage is from the same concert in Stockholm at which the album was recorded. It was then slaughtered and remoulded by the skilled and manic artists credited at the end of the video. Turn off your mind, shut out the modern world and disappear into these analogue nightmare visions of darkness and ecstasy.”
Clear the pit…One of the year’s most anticipated metal records has arrived. New England’s acclaimed purveyors of death FUMING MOUTH have released their long-awaited full-length, Last Day of Sun, now via Nuclear Blast Records. An album that almost never was, Last Day of Sun is a work of perseverance, survival and resurrection with seething fury that knows no bounds.
Overcoming cancer in 2022, vocalist/guitarist Mark Whelan and crew rebounded with Last Day of Sun, setting a new pace for death metal in the process. Featuring the raw, brutal tracks The Silence Beyond Life and I’ll Find You, the record unravels with cataclysmic riffs and dire, ferocious vocals that take fans on a tumultuous journey through the arduous process of suffering and healing.
Today, FUMING MOUTH has revealed a new lyric video for their track Kill The Disease, a raging song about Whelan’s battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Whelan comments on the song:
“This is the one true song that has to deal with my cancer diagnosis from the album. If you have any disease in your life stand up and fight back against it.”
STELLAR CIRCUITS dropped one of the year’s best progressive metal records earlier this summer, with Sight To Sound. Now the band returns with a music video for the fan-favorite track Alchemy, just ahead of their tour.
Commenting on Alchemy, the band states:
“‘Alchemy’ was one of the last songs we finished for this album. It was something that came together fairly quickly and at the end of the process, it just felt like it was right. It ended up becoming a love letter to songwriting and the creative process.”
Arizona death-crusters GO AHEAD AND DIE unleash their caustic sophomore album Unhealthy Mechanisms via Nuclear Blast Records. A torrential whirlwind born from the livid minds of Igor Amadeus Cavalera (HEALING MAGIC) and Max Cavalera (SOULFLY, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY). This new installment to the band’s dystopian catalogue is a fresh dive into the madness of society and the pollution that ravages our minds.
In celebration of the new album, the band delivers an outpouring of raw vision in the form of the track, Drug-O-Cop. The single is the perfect mashup of gritty pissed-off punk angst and extreme metal. Check out the RoboCop parody that features Igor Amadeus and Max as corrupt cops.
Max Cavalera states:
“Igor and I are looking forward to bringing Go Ahead And Die on the road to the fans. We tackled mental health topics that are often taboo and have added to the corruption of civilization. I consider this to be the gnarliest record I have ever collaborated on.”
Igor Amadeus Cavalera comments:
“‘Drug-O-Cop’ is an old-school punk song to its core. Heavily inspired by the late 70’s and 80’s d-beat scene. One of my favourite songs on the record and a big middle finger to the abuse of power acted out by police forces around the world.”
Acclaimed metal quartet SYLOSIS have released a live video Pariahs, from their latest album, A Sign Of Things To Come. The video was filmed at the band’s recent show in London supporting labelmates MALEVOLENCE.
Josh Middleton comments: “The London show was an amazing night for us. We’ve been waiting so long to play these new songs live and they’ve been going down so well- we’re performing the best we ever have! Pariahs is a live favourite for all of us.”
One of the most exciting years for the German modern metal institution is coming to an end – though EQUILIBRIUM are far from taking it slow: Ahead of their upcoming tour with DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER at the end of December, the band releases their new single Cerulean Skies that is available on all streaming platforms now.
Founding member René Berthiaume states:
“When people tell us what they associate with the music of Equilibrium we often hear that they are being taken on a small journey with the songs. That’s what we tried again with the music and also the video of ‘Cerulean Skies’. We are very excited to release this next element of Equilibrium.”
The wait is over! Greek thrashers SUICIDAL ANGELS announce their new album Profane Prayer for the 1st March 2024. The album features nine brand new tracks and will be released via Nuclear Blast Records. In addition to the great news about the new album, the band is also releasing their first Single When the Lions Die. Last week SUICIDAL ANGELS also announced their European tour, which starts in March 2024.
Singer Nick comments about the new album Profane Prayer: “The time has come! Finally, almost after 4 years, the 8th studio album of Suicidal Angels is true and ready to unleash itself in to the market, bringing you some new tunes to satisfy the needs and the appetites of the toughest audience! March the 1st of 2024, this beast will be out, in digital and physical form in all of Nuclear Blast’s channels. We have returned and it will be killer!!!”
He adds about the first single When the Lions Die: “Out of severe internal quest, thousands of reading pages to manage and conquer the multiple demons and beasts inside, several worlds collide, here’s is our first single, When The Lions Die!”
The shadowy emissaries known as ZETRA sign to Nuclear Blast Records. To celebrate this unholy union, ZETRA have released a visual manifestation of their newest sonic offering Sacrifice.
An envoy from the void bestows the following message on behalf of the enigmatic duo:
“The Portal has opened
The Darkness is calling.
Absolution can only come through loss. A sacrifice must be made.
Zetra asks the question.
Do you believe enough?”
A cacophony of turbulent bounce and bludgeoning beats, the brand new single Bring Back The Noise out from Aussie metalcore behemoths Alpha Wolf profusely lives up to its name.
Fusing industrial grinds, caustic riffs and some nu metal-esque scratching alongside vocalist Lochie Keogh’s biting prowl, Bring Back The Noise is an undeniable party-starter on steroids demanding to be cranked to 11.
Of their brand new single, Alpha Wolf share: “In the early stages of writing Bring Back The Noise we felt we had a party starter on our hands. Refining this song together in the woods of our writing retreat in the Australian winter resulted in a two minute barrage of catchy riffs with fun and fierce lyrics, which perfectly encapsulates what Alpha Wolf is about. We’ve found a way to be okay with delivering in-your-face style vocal hooks that will get any crowd jumping and singing along, Bring Back The Noise delivers just that. Whether you like yelling along, head-banging or moshing we invite everyone to turn it up loud until their speakers blow.
On our recent tour across North-America we got the chance to debut this song live to which we received amazing feedback amongst new faces and we’re excited to finally be able to showcase the song in its true from for your listening pleasure.
Bring Back The Noise, turn it up.”
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. And whereas many of us are dusting off old pictures and sentimental objects, and reminiscing, Swedish melodic death metal virtuosos SOILWORK have dug up a different kind of trip down memory lane.
The band digitally releases Kvicksilver, a Swedish version of Mercury Shadow – once released in 2002 on SOILWORK’s fourth album Natural Born Chaos.
SOILWORK states:
“Heres an old gem from the vaults! ‘Kvicksilver’ means ‘mercury’ in Swedish and somehow we decided to make a Swedish version of one of our songs during the recording of the Natural Born Chaos album, back in 2002 . We think it turned out pretty damn cool and definitely deserves to be shared with the world at this point. Enjoy ‘Mercury Shadow’ – all sung in Scanian dialect, we give you ‘Kvicksilver’!”
