The Velvet Club To Make Their Splendour In The Grass Debut At The Byron Bay Brewery Bar

Gearing up for their massive Splendour in the Grass debut, Naarm/Melbourne-based indie rock outfit The Velvet Club are dropping new single On Your Own. Following the community radio success of Lose Track, The Velvet Club have been touring nationally and gigging hard during the first half of the year in the lead up to this latest release, which seamlessly blends the band’s signature feel-good energy with thought-provoking lyrics that shed light on mental health issues.

Recorded at Sunset Pig Studios and produced by Sam Swain (Sophisticated Dingo, Josh Cashman, Rat!Hammock), On Your Own encapsulates The Velvet Club’s optimistic brand of indie rock with hazy guitars, darting riffs and a lively beat that demands a boogie. With each new single, live show and festival appearance, The Velvet Club are continuing to gain new fans and solidify their reputation as a force to be reckoned with as they gear up for a huge string of shows, from Splendour in the Grass to Grooveland Fest in Perth, followed by Sydney’s Icebreaker Festival in August. The band answer some questions in the lead up to Splendour In The Grass this weekend.

How does it feel to be part of the Splendour in the Grass lineup this year?
It’s insane!! We’re super excited and can’t wait to get there and play.

Can you tell us about your style and how you think it fits into the festival atmosphere?
I think we’re going to love the festival atmosphere! We definitely think our live shows are where our music translates the most so hopefully it works well with the whole outdoor festival thing too!

What are you most looking forward to about performing at Splendour in the Grass?
I think honestly just getting to hang out at the festival with our friends that are also playing & watching them play too!

How do you think the festival experience enhances the connection between artists and their fans?
I think it’s the best way to connect with fans and potentially gain new fans too! There are so many bands I love now that I saw for the first time at a festival because my friend dragged me along to see it so hopefully there’s some friends being forced to watch our set haha.

Which acts are you most excited for?
Which mosh pits will we find you in? Sam Fender and Lizzo are definitely the big draw cards for us! But you will definitely see us in the mosh supporting some friends playing in Ra Ra Viper, Old Mervs & Teenage Dads too!

Any survival tips for the weekend?
Wear sneakers cause that hill is huge!

How will you try to find each other if you get separated?
Honestly we aren’t organised anywhere enough to sort that out. We’ll probably just lose each other and each have one hundred missed calls when we get reception again on Monday haha.

Gum boots or no gum boots?
No gum boots! Gotta manifest the sunshineeee

What are some of your favourite memories from SITG in previous years?
I went in 2016 purely to see The Strokes for the first time and it was honestly one of the highlights of my life!! It made me want to start a band and I remember messaging everyone I knew that could play an instrument as soon as I got home!
