Manchester Indie Rockers The Cavs Release New Single ‘Again’
A dynamic five-piece indie rock band from Manchester’s celebrated scene, The Cavs have released their latest single, simply titled Again. This fresh take on the classic indie rock style merges the manic and the melodic together, resulting in a highly inventive and wonderfully original track that we can’t get enough of.
Known for their imaginative indie rock style and energetic live shows, which have quickly earned them a reputation as one of the most exciting emerging bands on the Manchester indie scene, The Cavs have struck gold with Again, offering a new single that hits with a raw electric guitar sound reminiscent of bands like Kasabian. A track that quickly establishes itself as an indie rock anthem with its driving pace and bold vocals, Again is easily one of this year’s most impressive rock anthems.
What sets The Cavs apart from other indie rock bands is their clever use of hooks and melodic twists that take the listener by surprise. Again boasts an unusual and captivating song structure and rhythm that adds to its charm as an aggressively charged track about longing and frustration. The jagged, forceful guitar and percussion in Again give the track an almost punk feel, making it a powerhouse that grips the listener’s heart and smashes through the speakers. Front man Elliot Craven gives Hi Fi Way insight to their new single.
How exciting was the build-up to the release of the single Again?
It was very exciting! I definitely feel it’s one of our best songs to date. As we worked on the song, we couldn’t help but feel that it was something special. We just couldn’t wait for the fans to hear it.
Can you believe how much work goes in to a new single?
I can’t believe how much money goes into making a new single! (Laughs). But seriously, most people outside the music industry aren’t aware of the tremendous effort and time devoted to a new single, from the recording and mastering processes to the subsequent PR, marketing, and promotion. Nevertheless, it’s all worthwhile in the end, and we truly love it.
What’s the story behind the single Again?
The story of Again is about the frustrations of life and captures universal struggles of self-doubt and setbacks, while also providing a glimmer of hope and resilience.
Sonically, how would you describe The Cavs to Australian music fans?
At the moment there is some awesome new music coming out of Manchester, perhaps a new style for a new era of indie music. We try to experiment with different styles and try things a bit differently.
How did the band meet?
We get asked this one all the time and unfortunately, it’s not an exciting story! James and I had a ‘band’ (calling it a band would be extremely generous!). On a ‘fateful’ night out, James crossed paths with Chris, who was in search of fellow musicians for his newly formed band, and from that point on, the rest is history.
What was the energy like in those initial jam sessions?
The initial jam sessions we had together as a band were incredible, we instantly knew it was meant to happen.
Who are some of the biggest musical heroes for The Cavs?
Personally for me, Jimmy Goodwin (Doves) is my biggest musical hero. Some other influences in the band are electro/indie (Metronomy) to proper guitar rock like Kasabian.
How did you come up with the name The Cavs?
Originally, we were the ‘Cavaliers’ but we always used to shorten it on social media and talking to our mates as ‘The Cavs’ so in the end we decided to stick with that.
It the band working towards an EP/album?
We’re still skating on the back end of our last EP release (Music to my Madness, released in October 2022). There’s always an EP in mind but we have a few more singles on the horizon this year – watch this space! No album plans just yet.
Are there plans to tour around the country?
No plans as of yet but we are playing lots of amazing gigs in the summer, some festival slots (to be announced at the time of writing!). We have our big headline gig at an iconic Manchester venue ‘The Deaf Institute’ in June and a gig at ‘Rough Trade’ in Nottingham in July. Most of the gigs we have are in the north but hoping for some southern gigs in the near future.
What’s next for The Cavs?
Keep doing what we’re doing, enjoying it and see what doors open! Playing in Australia would be nice!!
