Abbey Moon Release New Single ‘Friends Of Mine’

Think about bands such as The La’s, The Verve, The Smiths and the Arctic Monkeys and you’re on the right track to discover UK indie outfit Abbey Moon. Their first release is Friends Of Mine which is an ode to friendship. Clocking in at three minutes and twenty two seconds it is short and sweet introduction but showcases the band’s intent and the anthemic choruses they can conjure. Dealing with the passing of time whilst acknowledging the unwavering nature of friendship it’s a song which will make you want to lift your pint in to the air whilst hugging your best mates and bellowing out the chorus. Read on to find out more about Abbey Moon.

How exciting was the build up to the release of the single Friends Of Mine?
The build up was very exciting for us. Being the first release we had a real sense of anticipation and we were eager to get the first taster out there.

Is it a tough choice of what to go with your debut single?
I think it was. Out of the songs we have recorded we all have a different favourite but in the end this made sense as a short and sweet introduction to the world of the Moon.

What’s the story behind the single Friends Of Mine?
It was a chorus that I had for ages. I played a lot of acoustic guitar of late and I just messed around with it until a verse started to take shape. We then played it together and the middle eight was added as well as the harmonies.

Sonically, how would you describe Abbey Moon?
I think we are best described as jangle pop with a bit of a bite.

How did the band meet?
Three of us have played in the same band previously and Jack our lead guitarist has been a friend for years.

What was the energy like in those initial jam sessions?
Very very good. Considering we had come out of lock down and gigs were starting up again etc. We had jam’s every week and really honed in on the songwriting and what we wanted to be. We had a few red stripes in true indie fashion and hammered out songs.

Who are some of the biggest musical heroes for Abbey Moon?
Probably differs for each member but broadly speaking The La’s, The Smiths, Arctics and The Verve.

How did you come up with the name Abbey Moon?
The name came from Jack actually. No idea how he came across it but it seemed to fit the music.

Is the band working towards an EP/album?
Yes we are constantly writing and recording. We will look towards more singles culminating in an EP and then look towards an album.

Is the ultimate aim to tour overseas?
Yes, we want to put out an album with substance and great tunes and then look towards taking a show to as many places as we can.

What’s next for Abbey Moon?
Gigs and recording/writing. Song are coming thick and fast at the minute and I think they are getting better. We are progressing and really developing a sound that’s unmistakably us.
