Dennis Cometti Return With New Single & Announce Tour Dates

Perth Punks Dennis Cometti (The Band) have come charging back with their brand new single Bloke On The Run and a stack of tour dates around the country in January ‘23.

Bloke On The Run is a punk rock history lesson about Western Australia’s best known bushranger, Moondyne Joe. A terrible crook yet brilliant escape artist, Moondyne Joe may not be as famous as his armored Victorian counterpart, but Dennis Cometti reckon his story is worthy of enshrining in riffs.

Guitarist/vocalist Alex Patching elaborates: “When Joseph Bolitho Johns was rotting away in the hull of a dingy ship en route to Fremantle’s convict establishment in early 1853, the idea that a local trio of bozos would dedicate two and half minutes of AC/DC worship to his name probably never crossed his mind. In fact, Johns passed away a long time before AC/DC ever played their first note (73 years and three months to be roughly exact); even longer before Dennis Cometti laid down Bloke On The Run to tape in a shed in WA’s south west in the summer of 2021.

“Moondyne Joe may be an obscure character outside of Western Australia, but Dennis Cometti believe that our state’s greatest escape artist deserves a proper look in. Ned Kelly? Never heard of him.”

Dennis Cometti (The Band) deals in short, sharp rock warts ‘n’ anthems about life in the world’s most remote city. In 2020, the band released their debut, self-titled album featuring the unofficial Western Australia succession anthem, WAXIT. With the WA border shut indefinitely at the time, WAXIT soundtracked glossy nightly news and A Current Affair packages about the state breaking free of the Australian Federation. Even the ABC’s election analyst Antony Green suggested the official WAxit party adopt the single as their anthem. The track was RTRFM’s most played song of 2020 and they also picked up a WAM award for best punk/hardcore act that same year.

Since then, the boys have toured some of Western Australia’s finest venues with the likes of Kim Salmon, Cosmic Psychos and The Chats who also took ‘em on their very first international tour earlier this year.

Dennis Cometti will be blokes on the run around Australia in January. Their headline tour kicks off with a couple of dates on the West Coast then shoots over to the East. After that, expect a new album from Western Australia’s finest self-appointed urban sociologists.
