Metal Mix Tape Volume 5

Let there be metal! Have a look to see who made Metal Mix Tape Volume Fiver:

Grammy-nominated Lancaster five-piece AUGUST BURNS RED — JB Brubaker [lead guitar], Brent Rambler [rhythm guitar], Matt Greiner [drums], Jake Luhrs [vocals], and Dustin Davidson [bass] — have announced their new album Death Below. It arrives on March 24 via SharpTone Records.

“It’s no secret that the past few years have been extremely dark and challenging,” Brubaker says. “Death Below is here as a result of that time in each our lives and the emotions that came with it. We were motivated by uncertainty, fear, outrage, and triumph. I feel this is the darkest, most personal album we’ve ever written, and I couldnt be more proud of what the five of us made together.”

Ancestry is a complex and technical ABR track held together by perhaps the most painful and personal lyrics Jake has ever written,” says Brubaker. “I loved this song in every phase since its inception. From the instrumental rendition, to the lyrics and vocals being added, to finally bringing it all together with Jesse’s anthemic guest vocals, Ancestry is a song we’ve been looking forward to sharing with the world for a long time.”

A few weeks ago, the New Wave of Swedish Death Metal architects IN FLAMES announced their fourteenth studio album, Foregone, with the immense single Foregone Pt. 1. The band pick up the threads releasing Foregone Pt. 2!

Frontman Anders Fridén states, “While revisiting songs in our catalogue like Moonshield and Gyroscope, I felt we hadn’t done that style for a while. We wanted honour those types of songs which incorporates the Swedish folk vibe but bring it to the current era of In flames. Musically and lyrically it is a continuation of Foregone.”

With over 100+ million streams and a tremendously successful album released just a year ago, symphonic metal titans THERION have not been idle and continue their epic Leviathan trilogy with their striking new video clip for Codex Gigas. The new masterpiece from the Swedish powerhouse THERION , Leviathan II, has finally been released via Nuclear Blast Records.

Christofer comments
“One day I was thinking about epic doom metal and wondering if it is harder to write a ”hit song” in that genre, or if it’s harder in regular metal. I’m a huge fan of Candlemass, and in my opinion, I haven’t heard any other band match their hit songs in the genre. So, I decided to try find out for myself how hard it is. Of course, I had to involve Thomas in the writing process, being an ex Candlemass singer. The result was “Codex Gigas”, a Candlemass-inspired Therion doom song. If it’s a hit or not will be up to the fans to judge.”

TRIVIUM frontman and guitarist Matthew K. Heafy, under the name “KIICHI CHAOS,” and leading metal and hard rock label Nuclear Blast have teamed up with leading global esports organization Team Vitality for the launch of Metality (The Vitality Anthem).

Crafted by Heafy and mixed by prolific producer Josh Wilbur, Metality (The Vitality Anthem) demonstrates the growing parallels between competitive gaming and music. Metality (The Vitality Anthem) is the first project in what will be a long-term collaboration between Team Vitality and Nuclear Blast.

Heafy worked to produce a song which was able to capture the power of esports with heavy metal providing the perfect backdrop. Metality (The Vitality Anthem) aims to be a mainstay for Team Vitality with the track being used during events and competitions.

After MØL released their second studio album Diorama in November last year, the guys from Denmark are back today with their new Instrumental version of the album! Diorama (Instrumental) is available on all digital platforms and as a special vinyl edition to celebrate the anniversary of Diorama’s original release date. The band also release a brand-new full guitar playthrough video for Itinerary.

Nicolai comments:
“We are very excited to present the instrumental version of “Diorama” to our fans. A lot of work and creativity goes into making our sound. That is why we feel that the music deserves a release of its own where it is possible to immerse yourself entirely in the soundscapes.”

Industrial metal outlaws TURMION KÄTILÖT have released a video for Sormenjälki, the second single from their upcoming tenth studio album Omen X that’s set for release on 13th January through Nuclear Blast Records.

In regards to the new single, MC Raaka Pee comments:

“The world covers its prints like a cat covers its feces in the litter box.
That cat is held and secrets about people are whispered to it.
When a person is held like that instead of the cat, the litter box changes.
Would you be the kind of person whose fingerprints can be looked at without remorse?”

The new opus of Swedish adventure metallers TWILIGHT FORCE, At the Heart of Wintervale, will see the light of day on January 20, 2023 through Nuclear Blast. The band has unveiled the first epic tale off the much anticipated album. The first single ‘Twilight Force’ comes along with an official lyric video allowing you to dive word by word into the new adventure of TWILIGHT FORCE. The visual portrayal of this song is created by Tullius Heuer.

TWILIGHT FORCE comments:
“Rejoice and Revel!! We are extraordinarily elated and proud to finally share the first track and single from our fourth opus: ‘Twilight Force’. Our self-titled track is the tale of the Six Crystal Bearers and their quest for the glory of the Seven Kingdoms. The six heroes, as foretold by the Book of Time, are the protectors of the realms and the saviours who shall lead the Twilight Kingdoms into eternal prosperity and triumph. So come, follow the Crystal Bearer’s journey throughout this swift and classic piece, where the sounds and sights of old and new are fused into one sparkling concoction of extraordinary adventures! Join us, partake in the adventure once again, and May the Power of the Dragon Guide You!”

Symphonic metal titans EPICA finally unleash The Alchemy Project, a unique collaboration featuring 13 bands and musicians who co-wrote and performed the 7 new tracks with them.

For this special occasion, EPICA present another true gem from the release, in form of a music video for a hauntingly dark track with a majestic chorus: Sirens – Of Blood And Water was co-written and performed with melodic metal queen Charlotte Wessels and folk/black metal pioneer Myrkur, and together with Simone Simons, these 3 leading ladies of heavy music form the most spectacular trinity of this winter.

“Charlotte and I go back many years, but we never really worked on music together. Since she started releasing her solo songs, I became an admirer of her work and reached out to her to create a song for ‘The Alchemy Project’.” Simone Simons remembers. “That collaboration resulted in the beautiful haunting song, ‘Sirens – Of Blood And Water’. We both have a fascination for mermaids, the fairytale from H.C. Andersen and wanted to write a song from the perspective of the sisters of the little mermaid. I loved how our creative minds flowed into the song and having Myrkur, who happens to be Danish just like the author of the story, add her unique voice to the song was the perfect match that we needed to complete the story.”

AMORPHIS shroud you in more heavy riffs and timeless melodies by launching their brand-new track The Well! As part of the Halo (Tour Edition) digipak that is out now, this song was recorded during the band’s latest studio session and is only available on this CD and digitally.

“’The Well’ tells a story about an individual causing chaos and mayhem by breaking the principles of society. It is a timeless force phenomenon repeating itself in the history of time, a kind of natural force among the human kind”, vocalist Tomi Joutsen states. “The song itself is drawing some influences from the early scandinavian early black metal and classic oriental Amorphis vibes. This one is on the heavier side of the material recorded during the ‘Halo’ album sessions in 2021.”

This year, Korn released their latest album Requiem via Loma Vista Recordings which debuted at #1 on the ARIA chart, and in support performed multiple sold out global headline tours in addition to the intimate one-off performance of Requiem Mass at the Hollywood United Methodist Church in Los Angeles.

The band shares a new remix of Requiem standout single Worst Is On Its Way, reworked by HEALTH with verses from Danny Brown and Meechy Darko of Flatbush Zombies.

The remix arrives with a video that nods to the original Worst Is On Its Way music video which was directed by Craig Bernard and Culley Bunker and depicted the band’s high energy performance of the song in greyscale as individual members of the band are decomposed into animated particles with a series of visual effects and now also features appearances from Brown and Darko.

Prolific metalcore progressives ERRA have shared the official video for Pull From the Ghost. It is comprised of live footage from the band’s mostly sold-out 2022 headline tour.

The song features the masterful technical proficiency fans expect from ERRA, while the lyrical concept delves into an interesting aspect of the human psyche and looks at almost the reverse of Stockholm Syndrome. The visual captures the band in its most natural state — on stage!

“Our fans exceeded our expectations over the summer by making our headliner the success that it was,” says Jesse Cash. “The shows were such a blast, and we were documenting video of them every night. After digging through hours of footage, we comprised this video. For the people who came out, we hope the video may do for you what it does for us, which is to ground us back in that moment when we were a part of it. For everyone else, we hope you’ll come be a part of the next one.”

New York powerhouses State Champs have shared an acoustic version of their track Outta My Head, out now via Pure Noise Records. Stripped back guitar licks and vocal harmonies breathe new life into the song while still maintaining the energy of the fan-favorite, which originally appeared on the recently released Kings Of The New Age.

“It’s been way too fun stripping down these songs and giving you guys more acoustic jams to listen to,” shares vocalist Derek DiScanio. “That being said, we’re back again with Outta My Head acoustic. Enjoy.”

Progressive metalcore head-turners Invent Animate have dropped the video for their latest single Elysium.

The track cycles through multiple modes, textures, and layers — vacillating between intricate, slow, and downright pretty sonic passages before erupting with brutal riffage and nightmare-haunting vocals. It moves in fits and starts, and invites the listener to ride sidecar on a sonic thrill ride

When my grandfather got sick, I was a 15-year-old boy with no emotional grip on my world,” offers vocalist Marcus Vik, pulling back the curtain on the song’s inspiration and sharing how it helped him exorcise a personal demon he was dealing with. “We were close, but his sickness was something I didn’t see. It might’ve been because I didn’t want to see it or that I was too scared. When he passed, I didn’t comprehend the mourning, I didn’t feel it, and that made me feel shame. It took me 12 years to wake up one day and embrace it, and it hit me like a wave of odd emotions that I’ve never felt before. Grief is upon me and this is the story of me looking back, searching my inner self and looking forward.”

Platinum-selling powerhouse Pierce The Veil — guitarist/vocalist Vic Fuentes, guitarist Tony Perry, and bassist Jaime Preciado — have announced their new album The Jaws of Life. It arrives February 10, 2023 via longtime label Fearless Records.

“There’s so much desperation underlying the lyrics of this song,” shares Fuentes. “It talks about a relationship where one person is ready to take things to the next level while the other is still unsure. One person is begging the other to either move forward or to let them out because being stuck in the middle is torture.”

He continues, “I wrote this song in Seattle at Mike Herrera from MXPX’s home studio. He let me live there for a couple of months while working on the record. I love writing in Seattle because it gives me all of the ’90s grunge rock vibes. Plus, it rains all the time, and I love the rain.”

Story Of The Year have shared their newest single Take The Ride, out now via SharpTone Records. The band brings their trademark energy to the new song, complete with an undeniably catchy danceable rhythm and vocals, to leave both diehard fans and new listeners hitting repeat.

“In the end, Take the Ride is a song about surrendering to what life dealt you and embracing the chaos instead of fighting it,” shares guitarist Ryan Phillips. “The song captures the spirit of finding freedom through a reckless adventure, even if it’s internal.”

Florida hard rock quintet WAGE WAR — Briton Bond [lead vocals], Cody Quistad [rhythm guitar, clean vocals], Seth Blake [lead guitar], Chris Gaylord [bass], and Stephen Kluesener [drums] — have announced The Stripped Sessions.

The 11-song acoustic-based LP reimagines songs from the band’s decade-plus career. It arrives on December 2 via Fearless Records. The band has shares the video for Never Said Goodbye.

“Never Said Goodbye is a song about losing someone you love, without the relief of closure,” the band explains. “You’re left wanting another year, another day, one last chance to say the things you wish you had before it’s too late. This was a track originally written on acoustic and was an easy pick for the Stripped record. Over the last couple of years, we’ve dealt with a lot of loss within our Wage War family and we know many others have felt the same. Grief is one of the hardest emotions to control and understand. We hope this track is a chance to find peace with loss and remember to hold those closest to you… closer.”

Overall, The Stripped Sessions “are a time capsule of our years so far,” says Quistad. “We obviously love to get rowdy and play super-energetic hard music, but just as important to me— and I think to people in general — is having that outlet to listen to something that’s a different speed. And how cool is it if a listener has songs they love in the high-energy realm, but it’s the same band, and those songs now offer a different take?”

Fresh off releasing their tenth studio album Euthanasia earlier this year, Stray From The Path are closing out 2022 in style with a brand new music video for the track Neighbourhood Watch out now.

Featuring live footage of the band in action, the music video for Neighbourhood Watch perfectly complements the track’s spitfire Rage Against The Machine-esque energy, chugs and ferocious soundscapes.

Euthanasia is the darkest and heaviest work so far from Stray From The Path, drawing on challenging circumstances to create a record that pulls no punches sonically or lyrically. The album (which has drawn early attention from the likes of Revolver Magazine, BrooklynVegan, Alternative Press, Guitar World and many more), pushes Stray From The Path’s signature blend of groove and aggression into adventurous and ominous new territory, proving that the long-running group are just as fiery as ever.

OCEANS have released their second full length album Hell Is Where The Heart Is. More than two years after the release of their first album, the German nu-metallers latest album Hell Is Where The Heart Is consists of three EP’s released throughout 2022:
Hell Is Where The Heart Is – Part I: Love, Part II: Longing and finally the last part Hell Is Where The Heart Is – Part III: Clarity which is released now.

The album is another successful entry into the bands discography, it’s dark atmosphere providing the perfect canvas for frontman Timo Rotten to exhibit his poignant lyrics that touch heavily on the topic of mental health.

To mark the occasion, the band is releasing a brand new music video made up by the twisted but genius mind of famous visual artist Costin Chioreanu for their title track Hell Is Where The Heart Is.

Timo Rotten comments:

“It’s finally here: album number two. I’ve listened to it from start to finish the past week for the first time in almost a year and it left me sitting there with tears in my eyes, goosebumps all over my body. It’s so dark I probably can’t handle to hear it again for some time. But I hope you all will enjoy it to the fullest.”

Ahead of NIGHTWISH’s glorious return to our European stages, the Finnish Symphonic metal super stars are proud to release the Human. :II: Nature. (Tour Edition)!

Including a Blu-ray Digipack of the band’s live stream event, An Evening With Nightwish In A Virtual World, the release is a testimonial to a formative time in our history, which pushed artists to their limits and demanded creative solutions for the live business.

An Evening With Nightwish In A Virtual World was such a creative solution – a one-of-a-kind event unique in the band’s history. It was an exceptionally ambitious production, allowing fans to follow the band playing live in an astonishing 3D world, designed according to the band’s vision.

“This is definitely one of the coolest things NIGHTWISH has ever done”, the band commented. “Entwining visual elements, technology and music in such an extraordinary way offers a unique experience to us all.”

The UK’s masters of progressive metal Threshold have finally released their 12th studio album!

Dividing Lines marks the second album since the return of former vocalist Glynn Morgan, who reunited with the band on their previous effort Legends Of The Shires (2017). A darker album than its predecessor, the band have described Dividing Lines as Legends darker, moodier older brother”.

Guitarist Karl Groom comments: “We’re really excited to finally get the new Threshold album out. Dividing Lines is an album we are proud of and the band cannot wait to get back to touring.”

To celebrate the album release, the band offers a mesmerising lyric video for the album’s opening track Haunted.

Bergen visionaries Enslaved are proud to announce their 16th studio album, Heimdal, set to be released on March 3rd 2023, via Nuclear Blast Records. This news is accompanied by the release of a blistering new single, titled Congelia, alongside an emotive, environmental video.

Enslaved’s Ivar Bjørnson & Grutle Kjellson commented,

“It’s quite weird, yet pretty awesome that we are now talking about the release of our 16th album; yes our 16th full-length album release. That’s not too shabby for a couple of scallywags from rural western Norway, is it? If you count our stint in the short lived Phobia-act, we have been playing together for no less than 32 years!

In all these years, Norse mythology has been our umbilical cord to the realms of mysticism and philosophy, and our gateway to the realms of deep psychology and the esoteric worlds beyond. One of the most fascinating characters of our mythology is HEIMDAL, and he has been lurking around in our minds like an enigma for three decades now. His first appearance was in a song called ‘Heimdallr’ on our demo tape ‘Yggdrasill’ back in 1992, and he’s had both minor and more significant roles in our lyrical universe over the years.

This time we have decided to dedicate an entire body of work to this most enigmatic of characters and richest of archetypes – we give you ‘HEIMDAL’. We have reached deeper and scouted further ahead than ever before – the past, present and future sound of the band comes together in songs born from sheer inspiration – it is the common force of a close-nit group of friends and musicians.”

Dark wave duo HOST (Greg Mackintosh and Nick Holmes) have released a new video for Hiding From Tomorrow, the second single from their upcoming debut album IX. This new offering is a brooding cut of stark goth rock, akin to the works of SIOUXISE AND THE BANSHEES and THE SISTERS OF MERCY.

Vocalist Nick Holmes comments:
“‘Hiding From Tomorrow’ was one of the first songs we wrote for the HOST project and although the title would suggest otherwise, it was written a few years prior to the pandemic. With that in mind, I was thinking about the things that keep you awake at night, and although life is something that should never be taken for granted, uncertainty is a big part of it, and none of us know what’s around the corner.”

Richmond USA’s hard-charging, metal maniacs MUNICIPAL WASTE have released a new video for Crank The Heat featuring appearances by IRON LUNG, SICK OF IT ALL, WARTHOG and more! Directed and produced by David Brodsky and Allison Woest of My Good Eye Visuals (Clutch, Cannibal Corpse, Gwar), the clip follows the band and friend’s wild shenanigans in the back of a NYC taxi.

“While everyone is getting cuffed up and starting to hunker down for the Holiday/Winter season, we thought now would be a good time to take you back to the glorious NYC Summer Heatwave of 2022. Shot all over Queens and beyond… join The Waste as we deliver our take on one of our favorite TV shows of all time: Taxi Cab Confessions. We hope you find this video for Crank the Heat to be a true scorcher as we look forward to warmer times ahead.”

The Amity Affliction return with their first new music of the year, leaning into their heavier side with the new single Show Me Your God.

“’Show Me Your God’ is the first song of our first self-produced record. The song is the first in a series of explorations and internal meditations on how our past shapes us and interacts with our various mental struggles in the present, drawing from both personal experience and also the trauma of close friends who have passed away or who have dealt with close loved ones passing away.”’

The new single follows a sold out national headline run in July this year in support of their latest album Everyone Loves You…Once You Leave Them. In 2021, The Amity Affliction released a trio of singles – Like Love, Give Up The Ghost, and Somewhere Beyond The Blue. To close out 2022, the band will perform at Good Things Festival alongside Bring Me The Horizon, Deftones, NOFX, Gojira and more.

Just recently, Finnish Folk Metal Superstars KORPIKLAANI released a new single called Crystallomantia which saw the band couple their trademark sound with their most politically influenced lyrics to date. The melancholic, yet upbeat anti-war song was written about the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.

KORPIKLAANI are following up with an English version of the track, to make its important message more accessible for an international audience.

The new era of progressive power metal highflyers INDUCTION officially begins! The band’s sophomore full-length album, Born From Fire is out now via Atomic Fire Records and is filled with 12 progressive symphonic metal anthems and catchy earworms, mixed and mastered by none less than Jacob Hansen.

“Louder, bigger, better, faster, stronger. Let me welcome you to the new album of INDUCTION. »Born From Fire« is out now and will take you on a journey through its universe. It’s a statement to the power metal scene that it’s time to wake up from the slumber and to get some fresh air. »Born From Fire«’s epos will draw you in with heartfelt stories, lust for live, catchy melodies and mind-bending arrangements. While not being a concept album, we still have a very specific message to convey, which – bluntly put – is: WE ARE BACK! And stronger than ever. Not only INDUCTION, but the world of music, in general, after the pandemic’s fatal reign,” states INDUCTION’s very own Tim Kanoa Hansen.

Connecticut metalcore dynamos Currents have dropped the visualizer for the new song Vengeance.

“Vengeance is the manifestation of pent-up aggression over the last few years since the release of our album The Way it Ends,” says singer Brian Wille. “It’s becoming disillusioned, taking yourself to places you never thought you’d be, and the rage and despair that comes along with that. It also talks about the desire to let those feelings go and to move forward, but not without digging deeper into that negativity first and exploring the satisfaction that comes with the right revenge…”
