Secret Sounds is pumped to announce headline shows by trailblazing, Platinum-selling, British pop star Years & Years, taking over Brisbane and Adelaide in November 2022! The hotly-anticipated shows will see the singer, actor and cultural vanguard hit down under with a host of new tracks from his stunning new album, Night Call, released earlier this year.
Years & Years, aka Olly Alexander, had already released two hugely successful albums before Night Call was born. He had earned 6 Brit Award nominations, a number one album and single in the UK, four further top 10 tracks and garnered 4.4 billion global streams. Years & Years has sold-out tours all around the world and played triumphant hometown shows at London’s O2 and Wembley Arena. Though Olly’s impact stretches far further than his impressive musical achievements, lending his influential and fearless voice on important discussions around mental health and issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community.
Olly’s advocation is marked by a number of significant moments: from his impassioned speeches at Glastonbury in 2016 in the wake of the Orlando nightclub shooting to his BBC Documentary Olly Alexander: Growing Up Gay, plus his dizzyingly creative world around sophomore album Palo Santo (2018), which arrived alongside an ambitious short film starring Judi Dench and Ben Whishaw.
In 2021, Olly led the cast of critically acclaimed and huge hit drama It’s A Sin. The show received an incredible reception from fans and critics alike and broke records on All 4 (it’s streaming platform in the UK), with over 18 million views to date – the platform’s biggest ever instant box-set. Following the show’s broadcast, the Terrence Higgins Trust reported a four-fold increase in HIV Testing Week stats from previous years.
The highs continued throughout 2021, with Olly collaborating on Lady Gaga’s reimagined album, having the opportunity to duet with Kylie Minogue and delivering a show-stopping performance with Sir Elton John at the Brit Awards.
Years & Years released his monumental new album, Night Call in January 2022 – reaching #1 on the UK Album Chart. The record is different to previous Years & Years works, while the 11-track dance record bears the bruises of Olly Alexander’s past few years of struggling with the spotlight and forced lockdown reflection, they are fed through a filter of fantasy and hedonism. Songs about heartbreak are few; traditional ballads are almost non-existent. Instead of that familiar, frank bitterness and melancholy, there’s a psychosexual energy coursing through it.
Night Call is tailor-made for reckless abandon; of sweaty nightclubs where lifelong memories are made and forgotten about by morning. Wall-to-wall synth work and high-drama disco breakdowns wash over it. Get ready for it to take you over when Years & Years play live this November, and see why Olly Alexander has secured his spot in the history books as one of the UK’s pop greats!
Years & Years will also be headlining Summer Camp Festival in Sydney and Melbourne.
