Melbourne’s beloved pop and roll groups Even will cap off 2022 and an amazing twelve months in their usual way; by playing a couple of XMAS EVEN shows a few days before the big day arrives. This year they’ll bless the Northcote Social Club with their presence on Tuesday December 20 and Wednesday December 21.
It is a tradition that goes back decades, and it’s one that covid didn’t even stop – they managed somehow in both 2021 and 2020 to squeeze XMAS EVEN shows in in between lockdowns.
This year will be a celebration of their most recent album Reverse Light Years, which was released in late October 2021 and which saw Even get the best press of their career and make a dent in the ARIA Top 20 Album charts for the first time ever. Also for the first time ever, on both nights of XMAS EVEN, the group will perform the double album in its entirety, as well as a shorter second set of favourites from across their existence. Both shows will feature the group’s expanded four-piece line up with second guitarist Anton Ruddick, on loan from the Swedish Magazines.
Joining Even in their celebrations will be, on December 20, The Golden Rail, locals with a deep history in the Perth jangle pop scene who also have a recent Cheersquad album release, Songs From Empty Streets; and, on December 21, L.A. Mood, the wonderful outfit fronted by Courtney Barnett’s drummer Dave Mudie, whose recent Cheersquad Records album A Print Out Of The Sun is full of the sort of summery psych-pop that sun-starved Melbournites are needing.
