Great Gable, Dice, Velvet Bloom @ Lion Arts Factory, Adelaide 7/10/2022

Western Australia’s Great Gable returned to Adelaide last night for the first leg of their national tour promoting their new album On The Wall In The Morning Light.

Making our way into the Lion Arts Factory I was delighted to hear the soulful sounds of Velvet Bloom. Although the crowd was small they were appreciative of the storytelling qualities of vocalist Maddy Herbert. Playing older songs such as Teach Ya and DM Me, we also heard her latest single Glimmer played live for the first time. Although Velvet Bloom was tonight a solo act, this project comes in various forms including Maddy often playing with her full live band The Vito Collective. There is a new album on the way and we were treated to some of the songs off this as well. Keep a watch out for it’s release.

Next up was a pleasant surprise with another western Australian band, the friendly neighbourhood boy band Dice. I had not heard of Dice before but judging from the crowd reaction I must have been the only one! Making their Adelaide debut, there was not much space in the venue when these guys hit the stage. They definitely have a huge following here in Adelaide, understandably so after hearing them play. Bringing good vibes and a stellar new single Tequila Shotgun we were treated to an amazing set which saw a lot of sweaty bodies emerge from the mosh.

In all honesty I think Great Gable has one of the best visual backdrop displays going around. It’s worth going to the gig just to sit back and watch the screen! Well that’s a lie actually you need to go for the great tunes as well! Opening with Dancing Shoes, a song off their new album, it didn’t take long for the crowd to get their groove on. For the next hour it was damn hard to not move your body. Great Gable have a real knack for writing tracks that make you just want to dance, from newer songs like Our Love, The Lookout and When I Grow Up to crowd favourites in Drift, All My Friends and Another Day. Finishing with their Triple J ‘Like A Version’ song Fireflies the whole evening was one big party vibe.

I highly recommend going to check these bands out as they come to a venue near you over the next few weeks. As a side note big props to the guys for making this an all ages gig.
