The Killers To Bring Home Three Nights Of After Race Concerts For The Valo Adelaide 500

The bright lights of Las Vegas will head to Adelaide this December as US rock band THE KILLERS take pole position in a star-studded series of after race concerts. Closing out the event on Sunday, December 4, this will mark the first return of the lauded international band, who have sold over 25 million albums, since their sold-out 2018 arena tour of Australia.

A huge pool of Australian talent will also perform trackside on Friday and Saturday nights, December 2 and 3. Saturday’s line-up will be headlined by Adelaide rock royalty JIMMY BARNES and Australian icon ICEHOUSE plus the reformation of NOISEWORKS. Holding strong as the gatekeeper of the Australian rock scene, JIMMY BARNES is the heart and soul of Australian rock and roll. He has nineteen #1 albums, more than The Beatles. He has also sold more records in Australia that any other local artist. For over 40 years he has delivered some of our most intense and iconic live performances both as a solo artist and as front man for the legendary Cold Chisel, leading him to be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame….twice, He is truly in a league of his own.

ICEHOUSE, formed in Sydney in 1977, are synonymous with the sound of Australia. Led by Iva Davies, the band have conquered not only their homeland but the US and Europe. The band are currently celebrating 40 years of its classic anthem Great Southern Land which they’ll be performing along with hit singles Crazy, Electric Blue and I Can’t Help Myself among many more. Wrapping up their first record in more than 30 years in, recently reformed rockers NOISEWORKS will also join in the fun performing a career spanning set of hits including Take Me Back and No Lies.

Sydney’s LIME CORDIALE and THE PRESETS will kick off the after races concert event on Friday, December 2 alongside hip-hop superstar BAKER BOY and local rock act TEENAGE JOANS Topping the charts in 2020 with their sophomore effort 14 Steps to a Better You, LIME CORDIALE have been a band on the rise since taking out the coveted J Award for Album of the year. Recently released single Country Club continues to garner universal acclaim for the dynamic brothers’ infectious pop rock. Sydney duo THE PRESETS are no stranger to big stages with the pair’s chart-topping electronic music sounding as youthful and important as ever. Winners of six ARIA Awards, including Album of the Year, monstrous party starter My People spent 75 weeks in the Australian charts, and they ushered in 2022 by creating the soundtrack to Sydney’s NYE Fireworks with the single from that event You Belong becoming Triple J’s most played track last January.

BAKER BOY can do it all. Rapper, dancer and artist, the 25-year-old former Australian of the Year Danzal Baker OAM incorporates the Yolngu language into his work, weaving stories from his native Arnhem Land communities alongside infectious hip hop beats.

His debut album Gela landed at #3 on the ARIA Albums Chart and was nominated for the Australian Music Prize last year. Following a triumphant slot at the 2021 AFL Grand Final in Perth in front of over 60,000 people BAKER BOY embarked on his biggest national tour of Australia to date in the first half of 2022. His live show is not to be missed. Local rock act TEENAGE JOANS will also hit the stage with its unique punk pop aesthetic that earned them the top spot in Triple J’s Unearthed High in 2020.

Six local acts will also be announced soon to join the huge line-up of artists as part of the MusicSA Bands on Track incentive.

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said that securing one of the world’s best live acts cemented Adelaide 500’s place back on the motorsport calendar.

“We made a commitment to not only bring back the great race that is the Adelaide 500 but, also, make it an event which will bring our events sector roaring back to life,” he said.

“And that we have done in securing one of the world’s best live acts to celebrate the Adelaide 500’s return – The Killers.

“Plus we have some of our country’s most-revered artists set to perform alongside a bevy of local talent that will help soundtrack the return of this great event, putting South Australia in pole position on the motorsport calendar.

This is a big win for music fans but also for the events and live music sectors with three nights of concerts delivering much-needed work and breathing more life back into these vital industries.”
