Metal Mix Tape Volume 1

Let there be metal! Have a look to see who made Metal Mix Tape Volume One:
Finnish folk metal superstars KORPIKLAANI have released a lyric video for Interrogativa Cantilena – an English version of the song Pidot from their acclaimed most recent album Jylhä, which was hailed by critics and fans alike as the most elaborate and mature KORPIKLAANI album to date Interrogativa Cantilena features guest vocals from none other than Kevin Ridley (Skyclad).
Jonne (Korpiklaani) comments:
“Our last adventure before COViD was our Japan tour, where we shared the stage with the Original Folk Metal legends, Skyclad. Kevin & I bonded and worked on various projects since then, so it came natural to ask him to give us lyrics. We sent him the Jylhä record and simply said, you chose which song and you write what you want. So he did. In fact his demo is probably better than this version! Nevertheless, we are extremely happy with how this came out in the end. We hope you enjoy this as much as we do.”
Kevin Ridley (Skyclad) adds:
“‘Interrogativa Cantilena’ is actually the third collaboration I have done with Jonne over the last year. It all started when I asked him if he would contribute to the Theigns & Thralls track ‘Drinking’. Shortly after that, he was working with Kartsy on Waltari’s anniversary album, and they asked me to add some vocals to the song ‘So Fine’. Coincidently, during this period, I had been doing some research into old poems that were written anonymously and I had come across the words for ‘Interrogativa Cantilena’, and I immediately thought they would work in a song. Then, serendipitously, I was asked if I would like to rework a track from the latest Korpiklaani album ‘Jylha’, using English words. So, I listened through and found that, with a bit of rearranging, that the words fit perfectly to the song ‘Pidot’.”
After three years of silence, Swiss Metal legends ELUVEITIE step out of the dark again, raising their voices to herald a new era of the band’s stunning career. The band releases their new single Aidus, following the huge success of their last album Ategnatos but in the same time showing the band from a never-before-seen side.
Founding member Chrigel Glanzmann comments on the approach:
“Definitely one of the harshest songs of Eluveitie ever. It’s the sheer consequence of our spiritual journey with “Ategnatos”: We’re no longer a “Celtic Metal” band… a metal band singing about Celtic history. We’re Celts playing metal music from all our hearts. We’re no more a “Pagan Metal” band. We are metal music playing pagans from all our hearts, gashing principles of our modern societies with our ancient message like a surgical blade. That’s probably the best way to describe our new single. Deal with it!”
The day has finally come for metal titans KREATOR to unleash the beast that is their monster new album, Hate Über Alles – a strong album-of-the-year contender as well as a clear statement against hate & the division of society.
To landmark its release day, KREATOR present Become Immortal! A lyrical and visual look back through the ages of their legendary career, whilst passing the torch to young German thrashers DESTROY THEM from Mille’s hometown, Essen, who feature as the Kreator performing in the video.
Mille Petrozza comments:
“We’re very proud of this record and we hope our Hordes love it as much we do! A big thank you to everyone involved and to our fans around the world for their support and for giving us a warm welcome back! The video was our third in a row with Tom Schlagkamp and his team, it’s been a pleasure working with them. The video is based on the lyrics, which is a full circle look back through the years and celebrating our early beginnings, through to the release of our latest record, ‘HATE ÜBER ALLES’.”
LAMB OF GOD unleash Nevermore, the first single and music video from Omens. The forthcoming full-length from the GRAMMY-nominated metal titans is due October 7th on Nuclear Blast Records.
Lamb Of God follows 2020’s No. 1 Hard Rock Album with a vicious New Testament. Riding high on a creative renaissance saluted by the likes of Rolling Stone and NME, the Grammy-nominated goliath returns with the gloriously unhinged Omens, produced by long-time collaborator Josh Wilbur (Korn, Megadeth).
Omens is a furious entry in the Lamb Of God catalogue, perhaps their angriest album yet. “The world is crazy and keeps changing. Omens is a reaction to the state of the world,” explains vocalist
Underground icon, extreme metal trailblazer, third world warrior, and leader of a diverse and dedicated tribe, Max Cavalera not only survives but thrives, blasting out riff after killer riff. The same voice, body, and spirit which launched SOULFLY in 1997 summons impossibly heavy noise to this day, throwing down ten slabs of monstrous music on the band’s twelfth album, Totem which will be released via Nuclear Blast on August 5th.
The band releases their second single entitled, Scouring The Vile which features John Tardy of OBITUARY.
SOULFLY’s Max Cavalera comments, ‘“’Scouring the Vile’ is SOULFLY’s personal fuck you letter to cancer! The lyrics are angered by the loss of loved ones. It was amazing to share the vocals with an old veteran, John Tardy of OBITUARY.’’
Australian metal royalty, SUPERHEIST have finally delivered the highly anticipated first single titled Medicated off the upcoming 6th studio album MMXX due for release on July 1 through Black Mountain Music/ MGM. After the departure of former frontman, Ezekiel Ox in 2019, the band chose not to search for a new singer and took vocal duties upon themselves. Guitarist and founding member dw Norton and the band’s longest serving bass player Si Durrant share the task and by all accounts deliver the goods!
Medicated delivers a perfect blend of brutal and melody, and whets the palette for all Heist faithful, as it sets the tone for what to expect from the re-invented Superheist and their new upcoming album MMXX. SUPERHEIST’s MMXX will be out 1 July 2022 and will be available on CD, Vinyl, Digital download and stream from all major digital streaming platforms.
Seether have unveiled the official video for What Would You Do? a track from the upcoming deluxe edition of their most recent album, Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum. The emotionally cathartic, terror-stricken visual, directed by Jon Vulpine (Three Days Grace, Skillet, Backstreet Boys) takes the band’s well-known predilection for horror-film exhibitionism to a new level.
SOILWORK continue to please their fans by releasing the second single of the upcoming album Övergivenheten. After delivering the title track of their new longplayer already some weeks ago, the Swedes release the next single called Nous Sommes La Guerre. This track represents the next massive piece of their highly anticipated album which is due on August 19th.
SOILWORK about the new single:
“‘Nous Sommes la Guerre’ evolved around a “fight or flight” theme. The song is about internal struggles and confronting your own worst sides. It’s a cry for help in defeating the darkness inside of you and move towards a brighter path.”
The extraordinary artwork for the new single is created by Argavilda who has a very own view on the band’s latest output. His thoughts about ‘Nous Sommes La Guerre’ and his interpretation of it:
“The idea is to peel the skin of the narrator to reveal the individual layers and see what makes the individual. All the scarred and murky sides being laid bare the deeper you dig. Crying golden blood because there are no more tears. It is a person soul searching to find answers and exposing themselves to ask for help. My interpretation of the lyrics is intricately connected to being lost and realizing, that you must build yourself up anew and that you cannot do it alone”.
Bay Area metal titans MACHINE HEAD have dropped mammoth new track, UNHALLØWED, along with an accompanying video shot live from the band’s Electric Happy Hour series. The new track is lifted from the band’s tenth studio album, ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN which will be released via Nuclear Blast x Imperium Recordings on August 26th, 2022.
Speaking on the latest track to be released from the upcoming album, MACHINE HEAD founder, Robb Flynn shares;
“UNHALLØWED”: Chapter Six – ‘ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN’
“Drowning in the deepest depression of his life, Eros is at a breaking point. Collecting heartaches, loss, and near psychotic isolation, “Unhallowed” is the beginning of a powerful shift of our story. An introspective narrative starts the song lyrically, which is a collaborative effort written by myself, Guitarist Wacław “Vogg” Kiełtyka, and Bassist/Backing Vocalist Jared MacEachern and encapsulates the collective strength of this writing team.
“Anchored by an absolutely monstrous groove, the vocals melodically mirror the state of mind of Eros as he reels from the loss of his mother to a drug overdose and begins a slow downward spiral into madness. However, the culmination of the track infuses some much-needed light, but will it be enough?”
2021’s hottest heavy band, SPIRITBOX, have announced the release of their first new music since their incendiary, chart-topping debut album, Eternal Blue.
The new release comes in the form of a 3-track single titled Rotoscope and sees the band bringing their unique spin to a more industrial, 90’s alt-rock-tinged sound.
The new drop is accompanied by an official music video directed by Max Moore. The other tracks in the 3-track single release are Sew Me Up and Hysteria.
Aussie metalcore powerhouse Alpha Wolf have revealed the second track from The Lost & The Longing, their upcoming split EP with Holding Absence. The new single, titled Hotel Underground, is a sub-3 minute flurry of despondent destruction that takes aim at wilful bystanders.
Vocalist Lochie Keogh comments “Whenever some bomb drops there’s always those motherfuckers on the side that narrowly avoid the fallout, taking their survival as a flimsy proof of innocence, sitting with their hands over ears crying ‘la la la la.’ Roaches, rats, locusts, pests, rodents, open your ears and listen to me, your time is coming and I’m bringing it to you.”
ROB ZOMBIE has released the music video for Shake Your Ass-Smoke Your Grass off the highly acclaimed The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy.
The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy is ROB ZOMBIE’s first No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart. The multiplatinum singer and filmmaker’s first album with Nuclear Blast cracked the top 10 in several countries, including Germany, Canada, Scotland, and Australia. In the United States, it’s ROB ZOMBIE’s seventh consecutive Top 10 album since his first solo outing in 1998.
ANTHRAX releases The Devil You Know live, the second “early taste” single/music video from the band’s 40th anniversary livestream concert, ‘XL’. The release will be available in the UK/Europe digitally on July 15th (Nuclear Blast), followed by a Blu-Ray release (inc. 2CD + 1Blu-Ray) on July 22nd. It will be available in North America on Blu-Ray/CD/Digital on July 15th (Megaforce). The Devil You Know was the first official single released from the band’s highly-acclaimed 2011 album, Worship Music, and was a stand-out track with the media.
MISS MAY I Releases Earth Shaker Visualizer CURSE OF EXISTENCE Album drops September 2 via SharpTone Records.
‘Earth Shaker’ is our self-description on the ones who are motivated to get themselves out of the ‘mayhem’ they are experiencing. Everyone out there has reached the breaking point where enough is enough and the time comes to make a change. Sometimes that change can make ripples in your life and redirect you to a new path, but its still forward and that’s what matters. Even when it feels like there is nowhere to go you can become an ‘Earth Shaker’ and make your own quake in your life.” – Levi Benton
This song surely gave the one or another listener goosebumps when being performed on one of AMARANTHE’s breathtaking liveshows, and now a transition of the feelings has been created by releasing a remarkable music video for: Crystalline.
The majestic interplay of orchestral arrangements and in turn distorted guitars is visually underlined in the new stunning music video and not least by the vocal performance between Elize Ryd and Nils Molin.
By releasing this music video AMARANTHE are taking the anthem to a new level which lets the song resurrect, supported by the passion and the emotions which can now also be transferred visually.
AMARANTHE comment on the new video:
“‘Crystalline’ was a song born from pure emotions in the moment, and we felt that it truly deserved its own spotlight as a single together with a video. Shot at Rydzyna, a 17th century Château outside of Wrocław, Poland, long time collaborators Grupa13 once again worked their visual magic for the video. We hope you will love the result just as much as we do!”
