Semantics Release New Single & Video For “Get In The Car”

Meanjin post-punks Semantics finally release details of their forthcoming album with SideOneDummy / Cooking Vinyl Australia. The debut LP, Paint Me Blue, is set to arrive May 20, and first taste Get In The Car heralding an exciting new era for the band.
Get In The Car is somewhat of a Gen Z call to arms, and a reminder to cut yourself some geographical distance when it all gets a bit much. “Maybe we can settle down for a night, pack a pillow in a van and get some cheap red wine” ; the new single is an ode to the road trip reminiscent of Aussie punk forefathers Ceres and Luca Brasi.
With two EPs to their name, it was their single Drunk that really put the band on the radar, landing them a coveted spot on the triple j Unearthed stage at BIGSOUND 2019. In their short time together, they’ve also impressively played shows with Violent Soho, The Menzingers, WAAX, Dune Rats, Sly Withers and Luca Brasi while a pandemic raged on in the background.
In 2021 the band joined the SideOneDummy Records family where they’ll release their debut album, Paint Me Blue. Produced by the band and Grammy Nominated producer Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Jeff Rosenstock, Joyce Manor), Paint Me Blue showcases Semantics’ impeccable songwriting and mastery of punk and indie sensibilities with a distinctive Aussie flair. Lyrically, the album dives into mental illness, urban environmental depression and the stark realities facing the youth of Australia today.
Semantics have big plans for 2022 and they’re just getting warmed up.
