Great Gable On Tour…

Great Gable’s national tour is underway and to coicide with the tour they have released their breezy new single Our Love via Rainbow Valley Records. Tantalising and hypnotic, Our Love is a blissed-out jam produced by Matt Corby and Alex Henriksson.

The new single follows on from Great Gable’s carefree lead single Hazy, and the jaunty follow up Another Day – their first releases with new label Rainbow Valley Records. The new music comes off the back of their critically acclaimed 2020 debut album Tracing Faces. Matt, Alex, Chris and Cal answer a few questions about the single and tour for Hi Fi Way.

How has the build up been to the new single Our Love?
Matt: Pretty good I think, I don’t really see much of the industry hype or anything. But my mum and dad were super keen to hear it.

What is the story behind the single?
Alex:
It’s a catchy tune about that moment when you ask yourself “will this last forever?” And it feels as though, Ya know??

How was it working with Matt Corby?
Chris:
Working with Corby is great. This time his role was focused more heavily on the production side of things. Corby has a meticulous ear but can get a little too competitive on Skate 3.

How would you compare it sonically to some of your other music?
Cal: I think being in a different studio with a different room changes the vibe. Also all of Rainbow Valley’s gear is different so the combination of all those different things makes for a unique sound compared to the other album which was done at the Music Farm. Specifically on drums, some of the songs are recorded quite softly which got us some cool sounds.

Are the second album blues something you worry about as a band?
Matt: Never, don’t believe the hype!! Each piece of work is its own and it deserves all the love. Album number two is going to be so different to the first so there’s no expectations.

Sonically, do you think the band’s music has changed much?
Alex: I think one of our biggest strengths is that we can sound like ten different bands within one album. Sounding the same from album to album is boring.

What was the biggest learning your took away from making your debut that you wouldn’t repeat again?
Cal:
Definitely should have written some more songs for the first album. Going into this album we wrote double the amount of songs, which can help in seeing which ones are the best and which ones don’t really have potential.

Who would you say is the biggest shared musical influence/ inspiration for Great Gable?
Chris: Arctic Monkeys

How much are you looking forward to getting back on tour?
Matt: We are currently on tour and it’s super fun, it’s great to be on the road with my mates! And it’s so good to see all our friends and fans from the east coast again.

Beyond the tour what’s next for Great Gable?
Cal: Just keen to get some music out for the fans and play the songs live for them, and get stuck into some writing as well.
