outfit Dish Up Enticing Pop Gem ‘sunny’

Soul-driven pop trio outfit unveil their grippingly honest debut, sunny. The single wraps Tim Tan’s infectious pop melodies around warm grooves and lush chords while narrating battles of internal headspace so vividly you’d mistake them for your own.

For fans of Ruel, HONNE and Budjerah, sunny was entirely written & produced by outfit. The single gives an exciting taste of what’s still to come from this breath-of-fresh air group, landing with an evocative punch.

The song itself stems from an original idea Tim had, after struggling to fall asleep. Perfectly capturing the unpredictable nature of the recent times, sunny exists for those in-between moments: trying to fall asleep but at the same time, trying to find that glimmering thing to wake for. The band answer a few questions for Hi Fi Way about the single.

How has the build-up been leading up to the release of your new single sunny
We’ve been chipping away at some music since the start of the year and had been planning the sunny release the past few months which was a lot of fun! Initially we weren’t sure which song to put out first since it feels a bit like picking your favourite child, but we ended up deciding on sunny as we thought it was the perfect song to come out of winter and into summer.

Sonically, how would you describe your music?
The three of us all enjoy listening to a wide range of styles so there’s little bits of everything in there! Almost as if you mixed Soul, RnB, Hip Hop and Lofi together and wrapped it up in Pop packaging.

Who would you consider to be the biggest influence on your music and why?
We’re big fans of English duo HONNE since their music really nails the lofi meets pop thing, and love their approach to song writing and lyricism. It somehow manages to be chill while still engaging and uplifting.

Best piece of advice you have been given?
As Jack Black once said “it’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock ’n’ roll”.

What’s next for outfit?
We’re starting to think forward to single number two to be released early next year, which we think will sit really well next to sunny! The song in mind shows a slightly more upbeat side to our music while keeping the chill lofi aspect as well. Other than that we’re enjoying hearing what people think of sunny!
