We Are ISO Talk “Love N’ Trust”
Thrilling dance pop newcomers We Are ISO have shared their lush new single Love n’ Trust – a considered track that floats through the perils of a one-sided relationship – accompanied by a stunning video directed by Alan Woodman of Nixie Films. We Are ISO, which is comprised of vocalist Straalen Mccallum and DJ Jessy Mulholland, were formed during the pandemic, and spent their time in isolation honing their unique brand of dance pop.
Love n’ Trust is an undeniable dancefloor filler – the pulsing rhythm and sweet synths throughout are guaranteed to get bodies moving. It’s electronic house-inspired dance pop at its finest; inspired by the likes of Chet Faker, Running Touch, Hayden James and RÜFÜS DU SOL, We Are ISO have an instant classic on their hands with Love n’ Trust. How has the build-up been leading up to the release of your single Love N’ Trust?
The support for Love N’ Trust has been so incredible. We have the best team behind us pushing it and honestly we are so grateful. The response has been amazing and it’s the best feeling in the world when people love the song we worked so hard on.
Was the process of making your single as challenging as you thought?
We have a rule in the studio…if it’s too challenging when writing, it means it’s being forced. Which takes away from the song. The flow when writing Love N’ Trust was so smooth and natural. We smashed the song, written and recorded all in half a day. It worked out so well.
Sonically, how would you describe your music?
Energetic, hypnotic and storytelling.
Who would you consider to be the biggest influence on your music and why?
I think we have a few big influences! Hayden James and Rufus Du Sol for sure. They keep the vibe there and their beats/ smooth synth sounds are always so catchy! We definitely like to incorporate that vibe in our songs. Lyrics/ vocals though has to be Jeff Buckley. His falsetto and his space when he sings. We love that! He tells the story and doesn’t force it. His songs inspire us so much!
Best piece of advice you have been given?
The harder you work the luckier you get! We love what we do and we are very lucky to be able to have the best job in the world! So we will keep working so hard and keep smashing out songs.
How did the band get together?
It honestly was such fate! It was just a friend of a friend that introduced us. We never thought we would be making this sort of music, since Jessy is from a tech house background and Straalen is very much a singer/songwriter but after 1 session of jamming out, it was such easy flow and we worked together really well! We believe everything happens for a reason and we are so grateful it worked out how it did.
Are you looking to tour more broadly?
WE ARE SO PUMPED TO TOUR! We are so looking forward to the day that COVID is no more and we can perform everywhere. We want to go overseas also. Just a waiting game now… but we are ready and pumped!
What’s next for We Are ISO?
We wanna be performing at all the biggest venues around the world. We will keep writing and releasing songs. We love what we do and we are so lucky to be able to call this a job. So we will keep working hard and keep doing heaps of gigs. We love performing live.
