Victoria’s VISIONER have released their brand new single and video Psyche. Forming in 2016, Visioner are well known for their energetic live performances, heavy riffs and catchy melodic choruses. They arrived strong, releasing their debut EP Adversity in 2016, single Sociopath in 2018 and their Sophomore EP Lucid Entity in 2019. In that short amount of time, they have shared the stage with National and International acts such as Parkway Drive, Dream on Dreamer, The Getaway Plan, In Hearts Wake, Northlane, Deez Nuts and Make Them Suffer. The band answer quick questions about their new single.
How has the build up been to the new single Psyche?
Pretty daunting actually, we’ve been itching to get new music out for everyone but with so many delays happening because of constraints around Covid and how we wanted to release it, it’s definitely a massive sigh of relief!
What is the background behind the single?
It’s really just digging into a lot of trauma from my past and kind of just a way for myself to really express and release some bad times that have passed, of all around shitty mental health brought on from my own stupidity.
What has the fan response been like so far?
Pretty positive really, a lot of positive comments from fans and friends which has been really nice to see and hear. First release with me, I was quite nervous to be honest.
How would you compare it sonically to some of your other music?
This song especially is definitely a bit of a hard hitting one, lyrically and musically. I would say it is one of the heaviest songs we have done to date and definitely added an extra creepy vibe compared to what the boys had previously done in the past.
Is the band building towards and album or EP?
We are definitely working on an EP for the near future, how long that will be, only time will tell but we are working hard to keep new music coming!
Does the music come before the lyrics?
Yeah it sure does, although it would be cool to experiment a bit more and challenge ourselves and try writing music around a topic or lyircs and see what we can do with that.
Who would you say is the biggest shared musical influence/ inspiration for Visioner?
Our biggest shared influences are probably bands like Northlane, Polaris and Make Them Suffer just to name a few. Although between us all we draw influences from slightly different musical backgrounds due to our different musical upbringings. which seems to result in a nice blend of our musical tastes.
Did the band lose much momentum last year due to the pandemic?
Oh for sure, the pandemic brought some major halts to being able to keep working on stuff.. just some of us living on different sides of the border from each other made things very hard, with three of the boys in VIC and the other two of us in NSW, it created some challenges but we kept doing what we could despite the constraints.
Are you looking forward to being able to tour more broadly around the country this year?
We sure are!! Provided Covid doesn’t close the borders again, we plan to play as many shows at many different places as possible!! The boys and I are very excited to be on the road again!!
What’s next for Visioner?
We plan to release more music soon, try broaden our fan base and continue to move forward with our musical journey.
