Fancy Face

In keeping with the themes of their latest single, Things Are Getting Better, Melbourne’s Fancy Face unveil the track’s exuberant visual accompaniment. Pairing the single’s retro-tinged goodness with iconic backing clips, Fancy Face have once again delivered an upbeat, feel-good release. Produced by Anthony Zielke, the new clip proves the five-piece to be an unstoppable force of positivity, under any circumstance.
Fancy Face are a brand-new indie rock outfit emerging out of Melbourne. Influenced by the smooth criminals of the alternative/indie rock world – The Growlers, Dope Lemon, The Murlocs and many more – the five piece is setting out to make some new friends with their groovy new tunes. The band join Hi Fi Way for a quick interview.
How has the build-up been leading up to the release of the single?
Hey there! Thanks for having us. The build has definitely been a ride and a half. It’s all started off with our first single – Slip Up along with a bunch of gigs then we were hit with the covid bomb. We’ve been pushing through it all, still dropping music and keeping creative. All in all it’s been a lot of fun getting our music out!
Was the process of making your single as challenging as you thought?
I had started writing in the summer of 2019 with our producer – Alex Markwell. We were more or less working out of lounge rooms with home studio set ups trying to nut out the sound I was looking for. It was amazing working with Markwell he immediately taught so much a about song writing. I gathered a bunch of demos together and from there I went out hunting for a band. The is history I guess hahah.
Sonically, how would describe your music?
Each song kind of has its own vibe. But overall it has an indie – Brit rock 60’s vibe.
Who would you consider to be the biggest influence on your music and why?
Gee that’s a hard one to narrow down haha I’ve been listening to music very heavily since a young buck and I still like to think some bands from way back have had an influence over me regardless of what I’m writing at the time. From the stones, guns n roses, Beatles, oasis, zeppelin to more recent bands like the The Black Keys, Jet, The Growlers and Dope Lemon.
Best piece of advice you have been given?
I’m still waiting to hear it. Haha
How did the band get together?
We all knew of new each from around the traps. Once the demos were done I had sent them out to a few people and we got together and jam’d until the line-up felt right!
Are you looking to tour more broadly?
Once COVID is over….. Absolutely!
What’s next for Fancy Face?
Dropping the EP shortly then back into the studio to start the second EP.
