Great Gable

Following a landmark twelve months which has seen multiple sold-out headline tours of Australia and New Zealand as well as festival appearances at Groovin The Moo, Falls Festival and SOTA Fest, Great Gable share their new single All My Friends.

Recorded at world-renowned studio The Music Farm and produced by Matt Corby and Alex Henriksson, the addictive new single features driving rhythms and golden tones. The band are all over the Q&A with Hi Fi Way.

How has the build-up been leading up to the release of the single All My Friends?
ALEX: It felt like it took ages to get the song ready to release but throughout that time I really had no doubts about ‘All My Friends’ being the single for the album and was so eager for everyone to hear it!

Has it been a major let down with the crisis that has unfolded?
MATT: Of course. I think it has for everyone. We’ve had to re-evaluate our whole year, a lot of which was built around touring. So it is frustrating, but remaining positive and having a creative outlook on things keeps it interesting.

How is the band making the most of the lock down right now?
CHRIS: We’ve been brainstorming different ways to engage with people over the next few months. We’ve also been writing heaps and sending each other ideas or Logic files for the other to work on from home.

Sonically, how would describe your music?
CAL: A mix of alternative indie rock, with a dash of pop.

Who would you consider to be the biggest influence on your music and why?
I’ve always loved The Beatles because not two of their songs are the same.

Best piece of advice you have been given?
Chill massive.

How did the band get together?
Al and Matt met playing cricket on the back end of high school. Cal joined after meeting Al at uni and I also met Cal at university, and joined the band when their previous bass player left.

Are you looking to tour more broadly once the madness settles down?
Yeah we were supposed to go to Europe and the UK when this all unfolded. So we will look at going there once it’s all safe to do so. Potentially to the US as well! And obviously back around Aus & NZ, was a bummer to postpone that one too but everyone is in the same boat right now.

What’s next for Great Gable?
Releasing more singles and an album we’re really proud of! We were supposed to be touring all year but now it looks like we’ll try write a couple more albums. And maybe do a few other fun things during this lock down.

What’s something interesting that most people wouldn’t know about the band?
Alex & I both just adopted some cats – Al has a cat named Clunkers and I have a kitten named Daisy. Also last year when we were on tour with our mates Dulcie, we polished off a 1kg tub of Yummi’s hummus in less than 5 mins. Personal record.
