Bakers Eddy return with new single On My Own, a no-holds-barred youth anthem that celebrates the unabashed joy of embracing your inner-introvert in an otherwise crowded world. Following recent singles Can’t Afford It & Leave It To Me, Bakers Eddy will celebrate the release of On My Own with a string of new live dates, including headline shows in Sydney (Thurs 12 Dec), Brisbane (Sat 14 Dec) and Melbourne (Fri 20 Dec) as well as summer festivals New Year’s Eve On The Hill, Festival of the Sun & more to be announced!
Recorded in their home town of Melbourne and mixed by Grammy Award nominated producer Doug Boehm (Girls, Twin Peaks, Tokyo Police Club) On My Own is, in the words of front man Ciarann Babbington, a “celebration of laziness”.
PSSR (featuring drummer Frank Ferrer of Guns N’ Roses) have today released their debut single Busted and have also announced they have signed to Golden Robot Records (part of the Golden Robot Global Entertainment Group)
New York City is known for a lot of things, but to some it’s the home of Rock ‘n’ Roll. A fiery and hugely influential Rock scene that spawned bands such as KISS, THE NEW YORK DOLLS, THE STROKES, THE RAMONES, LIVING COLOUR and THE VELVET UNDERGROUND. But it wasn’t just the bands, it is also about the iconic venues such as CBGB’s, Fillmore East, The Mercury Lounge and Bowery Ballroom.
“‘Busted’ is one of those songs that covers a little social commentary about game players that perhaps don’t really play fair or at least don’t consider the consequence of some of their actions; women, drugs, police, lies? A little self-awareness could keep you out of trouble. Because in the end all we have is are self to blame if things go wrong and our self to credit when it goes right!’’
(vox, guitar).- Eric Jakobssen
Adelaide-based sad-pop post-punk quartet Pinkish Blu are finishing off a huge 2019 with a brand new single Coupon. With layered vocals, ear worm hooks and life affirming lyrics, ‘Coupon’ is a buoyant, uplifting track that soars over rising 80s synths.
“I wrote ‘Coupon’ over a couple of weeks throughout different states of reflection,” singer Brice Young says. “[I came to the realisation] that it was only through bigger moments of complete loss of self-worth and moments of deep meaninglessness that I found the ability to pull myself out. In these moments I wasn’t only able to pull myself out but also pull myself to a new standard of living. Each time with more purpose and drive… I’m talking about meaning and purpose; the human condition to have something to love for.”
Algiers have released their new single Void, premiered by Adult Swim as part of their Single Club series. It will appear on the Atlanta group’s third album, There Is No Year, to be released on Friday 17 January, 2020 via Matador Records / Remote Control Records and will be available to purchase as a special flexi disc as part of the vinyl package.
“What I wanted to do is create a negative space wherein I can exist and engage but at the same time not be so exposed”, Fisher explains. He speaks of the record’s perspective as not only a political apparatus, but an intimate, responsive evocation of his understanding that “nothing is ever what you expect”, that what might seem for now to be well known or assured is not always so, that there is no safety net.
Baker Boy unveils his new video for current single Meditjin featuring NZ’s hottest new rapper JessB.
Filmed at Melbourne’s National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), the energetic video is directed by 23-year-old Sydney director Gabriel Gasparinatos. Gabriel’s work is recognised for tapping into the visual language of modern Australia and the young voices reshaping it. He previously worked with Danzal Baker aka Baker Boy on his ARIA nominated video Cool As Hell.
Baker Boy says, “The video for ‘Meditjin’ was such an exciting process to work through, the concept blew my mind, so I was just so pumped we managed to pull all the elements together. I mean filming in the NGV seemed like it was an unachievable vision, but Kate and the team were so on board with the concept and were great to work with!”
Slick, sultry and laden with sass, Favours is the much-anticipated follow up to Nicole Millar’s 2018 debut album Excuse Me, which spawned the viral hit Blindfolded (8 million+ combined streams) and ARIA Gold-accredited single Tremble (11 million+ combined streams). Flanked by warped synths and Millar’s signature croons, ‘Favours’ is a slice of unapologetic pop savagery, and marks the debut of a bold new era.
Both cheeky yet deeply personal, the song addresses a darker period of Millar’s life where she encountered both loss and heartbreak.
“I had a bit of a rough year with a lot of changes,” she reveals. “‘Favours’ is a song about how I’ve got no praise, or money left for this person.”
California’s own Hollywood Undead have announced the release of their highly-anticipated sixth full-length studio album, New Empire, Vol. 1, on February 14, 2020 via Dove & Grenade Media / BMG Australia.
Produced by Matt Good (Sleeping With Sirens, Asking Alexandria), the record is comprised of nine high-energy tracks that showcase the band embracing a heavier, hard-rock sound with this effort.
“This album is our attempt at reimagining Hollywood Undead, not just a new sound for this release, but a new sound for the band altogether. Our goal from the outset was to make music that stands alone from our other albums, yet seamlessly fits with what we’ve made before. Building upon the old to create a new sound and a New Empire,” explains Johnny 3 Tears (vocals, bass guitar).

Melbourne Americana singer-songwriter Katie Bates has already been performing live for over a decade. Obsessed and inspired by the music of the classic and alternative country artists from the 1960s and 70s, Katie began writing songs at the age of eleven, playing in bars shortly after.
Katie’s songs brim with honesty and more than a hint of grunge and grit. She brings an attitude to the table that is seldom seen in the Americana/ roots scene – a fire in the belly that simmers beneath a sweet surface of a gifted storyteller.
Polka Dot Dress is the provocative first single from Katie Bates’ forthcoming debut album. The song invites the listener to submit to temptation – beginning as whispered, beat-poem-esque spoken-word before building to a dramatic, chaotic, guitar-driven chorus.
CLIENTS unveil their first single Don’t Feel Lonely on Kwalete Anthems. A blistering first single from the talented English/ German duo, Don’t Feel Lonely features a Bass-heavy chorus and catchy vocal, creating a club-banger vibe that is guaranteed to keep you dancing all night long.
‘We wrote ‘Don’t Feel Lonely’ in Berlin during our first session with Therese who was over from Oslo. There was a bit of time pressure as she had a flight to catch – but luckily it was one of those elusive days where everything came together very quickly.‘
Recently San Cisco made their long-awaited return with brand new single Skin, the first taste of their upcoming record due for release next year.
The trio reveal their official music video to accompany Skin.
“For the “Skin” video, we teamed up with Melbourne director Freya Esders to create a sunlit, textural and atmospheric world reminiscent of the 70s. It was shot on 16mm film in and around the suburbs of Melbourne with the final scene captured at an airfield near Tullamarine. We wanted to showcase the band whilst also highlighting the themes of the song – the yearning for a love that is lost and the way we carry these emotions and memories through our lives.” Says Scarlett.
“”Skin” is about being left by a partner that was meant to be “forever”. Being frustrated with the fact you have no control of the situation and living at the mercy of your soon to not be lover’s decisions. You still see a small glimmer of hope, but ultimately it’s over.” Jordi Davieson
Jae Laffer has dropped his new single and video, Hotel Motel.
Describing the single, Laffer said today, “Hotel Motel sets the tone for the rest of the album. It’s a song essentially about the beauty of getting lost and the poetry of life on the fringes. I wrote the words in the Pilbara WA, so the coastline and the isolation crept in. Mostly, I love the mystery of the song. The music was captured in a first take”.
Hotel Motel is the first single to be lifted from Laffer’s forthcoming new album, set for release in the first half of 2020.
Melbourne’s BADGERS release the video for their debut single Make It Rain – out now! Directed by RC Stills (who has shot U2, Taylor Swift and The Raconteurs live most recently), he commented; “The main concept for ‘Make It Rain’ was to showcase Badgers in their most represented form. Being that it is their first video, we thought it would be ideal to portray the band and their personalities within the kaleidoscopic and experimental visuals and let the performance element carry the clip”.
Katy Perry shared her first holiday music video – Cozy Little Christmas, which was helmed by directing duo WATTS (Steve Aoki, Noah Cyrus). After being released last year as an Amazon Original Cozy Little Christmas claimed the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary radio airplay chart in December 2018.
On Cozy Little Christmas, Katy sings about her favourite time of year, reflecting on a holiday season spent with family in Denmark. She co-wrote and co-produced the track with Greg Wells, who produced Waking Up In Vegas, and Ferras Alqaisi, who co-wrote several songs on WITNESS.
Legendary rock icons The Used have surprised fans with a brand new single today. Blow Me (Feat. Jason Aalon Butler) is frenetic and explosive while showcasing the undeniable vocals of front man Bert McCracken.
“The Used are proud to present our new song Blow Me featuring Jason Aalon Butler from Fever 333,” shares McCracken on the new single. “Whether metaphorically signifying the power of words in general, or magnifying concern for the situation of societal gun violence, we urge the fans of our music to find individual and personal meaning in all of our songs. Thank you, and please enjoy!”
Formerly known as After Change, the Adelaide-based rock outfit have reformed, rejuvenated and re-branded as alt. and are exploring a brand new sound to accompany. As the first off an upcoming seven track EP, Insubordinate is unleashed as debut – and it’s a big one at that!
Insubordinate flaunts huge riffs, a darkness reminiscent of Deftones and a driving force throughout that makes the track an addictive listen. Insubordinate takes its name from definition and revolves around the topic of the government and vocalist Daniel Richards stance on their inability to action a positive change towards a better future. Richards explains the motivation behind the single in saying that “for years our government has made decisions that negatively impact our country and planet and it’s all based on their own greed, power and self entitlement. This song is just trying to put encouragement out there to those who actually do care to keep fighting it, keep standing up for what we believe in and protect our future.”
Love Fame Tragedy are back with passionate new track Hardcore, the second offering from their forthcoming EP Five Songs To Briefly Fill The Void, out in February via Good Soldier Songs / AWAL. The Wombats’ frontman Matthew “Murph” Murphy has once again enlisted the vocal talents of previous collaborator Maddi-Jean Waterhouse for his solo project’s sophomore EP, having worked with her on his debut I Don’t Want To Play The Victim, But I’m Really Good At It.
“Hardcore came to me on a rainy day in Ealing, inspired by LCD Soundsystem and what it felt like to be a 20 something in Liverpool, going to indie clubs like Liquidation, getting into trouble etc,” Murph explains.
The continuing ascent of Gerry Cinnamon is one of contemporary music’s most outstanding stories. Rising from a self-released debut album, Gerry has become a stadium and arena-filling headliner. And as an artist whose revealing and honest songs naturally connect with a huge and devoted audience, he’s achieved it all entirely independently.
Gerry shares his brand new track The Bonny, the title track from his upcoming album. Simultaneously anthemic and intimate, and nostalgic yet hopeful for the future, Gerry uses the imagery of a bonfire “so big that the flames light up the sky” as a symbol for making the most of the here-and-now. The Bonny is now available on 10” Double A-side vinyl with Dark Days from Gerry’s official store.
Post-genre art and music visionary Poppy has shared the video for Fill The Crown, the fourth single from her boundlessly ambitious new album I Disagree (out January 10 via Sumerian Records). The release follows her debut Australian performances last week including at Good Things Festival.
Rich with allusions to classic arthouse cinema, the video is set in parallel and disparate worlds, mirroring the song’s chasm-spanning approach to genre. The single’s sonic diversity is demonstrative of I Disagree’s variegated nature, which embodies “alternative” in the truest sense of the word, as Poppy bleeds the boundaries between pop, progressive, electronic, and metal, underpinned by unpredictable time signature shifts and indelible earworm vocal hooks.
Political punk icons, Anti-Flag, recently announced their upcoming album, 20/20 Vision, due out January 17th from Spinefarm Records/Caroline Australia, and the band have teamed with Billboard to premiere another new single Unbreakable and its accompanying music video.
“20/20 Vision aims to take a step back and stare down the most pressing problems of our time: kids in cages, the fentanyl crisis, rolling back EPA restrictions. It’s a record that at once feels both timely and forward thinking. 20/20 Vision is a work that Anti-Flag hopes will serve as an immediate form of communication with those who are politically engaged as well as a document of our modern times for a future generation. As #2 puts it: “We hope that when someone trips over this record in the sand of the post apocalypse, they’ll know that there were people who once stood in opposition to all of this.””
Client Liaison share the official video for the new single Champagne Affection. “Champagne Affection is an invitation to celebrate summer in all its carefree decadence. It describes the joy of two people coming together in the moment between flirting and romance. It’s a song for all five senses, a song for the imagination, where anything seems possible as long as you have a glass of Champagne in hand.”
