Dyson Stringer Cloher Announce Debut Album & Tour

Dyson Stringer Cloher – the iconic project of three of Australia’s most accomplished and dynamic songwriters, Jen Cloher, Mia Dyson and Liz Stringer – are thrilled to announce their debut album will be released Friday 4 October via Milk! Records / Remote Control.

To celebrate the announce, the trio release a beautiful music video for new single Believer. Directed by Annelise Hickey, the video follows Cloher’s 16 year old neighbour Lulu who plays for the Northcote Junior Football Team and aspires to play in the AFLW. The empowering clip details how the hard work by today’s AFLW players is inspiring and paving a new path for younger women in sport. As Stringer says “The Believer clip is based around aspiration, teamwork, community and reaching goals through self-discipline and self-love.”

As Cloher describes: “I remember the day Tayla Harris’ kick was immortalised. Women in my circle, mostly musicians, posted the now famous photo to their social pages in solidarity, calling out sexism and misogyny. It made me think about my next door neighbour Lulu Beatty who is 16. She plays in her school football team and dreams of one day playing in the AFLW. I often see Lulu and her Dad Vinnie walking along our street hand balling the footy on their way to the park. It always makes me tear up, knowing the existence of the AFLW gives her somewhere to aim her ambition. When Liz (Stringer) played me ‘Believer’ for the first time, I felt it’s immediate power and focus. Matching it with Lulu and her team excelling at their sport felt like the perfect union of sound and vision. I am so proud of this clip and I hope it finds it way to the audience that needs it most.”

Lulu says of the video: “I really enjoyed making the music video. It took me out of my comfort zone and challenged me in lots of different ways. I particularly enjoyed getting to know the crew and the muddy night with my friends. I started playing footy in 2016 the year before AFLW started. I am really passionate about footy and my goal is to play AFLW when I am older.”

Dyson Stringer Cloher formed on a whim and released an EP in 2013 which they then took on the road, playing over 40 shows around the country. Each then pursued their individual careers to great acclaim and respect. Between them they made a further six solo albums, won multiple awards and toured EVERYWHERE.

Their trio became what they now call “a fond memory and a series of tantalising unanswered questions.” Specifically – what would a full album sound like? If we – well – made one?

Dyson Stringer Cloher was recorded and mixed in eight days at The Loft, Chicago in April, 2019. It’s affirming to hear. Music made in the moment. Many of the takes and vocals are live. Each of these three remarkable artists are a story on their own. Each has embarked on many journeys, faced challenges and stared down all the hopes & dreams. But together they bring something forward that only exists in the best collaborations. Something greater than the sum of their parts. A kind of magic.
