The Beamish Brothers

The Beamish Brothers are two brothers from the town Toowoomba, Australia whose passion for music has taken them from jamming in their garage, to working with artists and labels from around the globe. Jeremy (19) and Ben (21) combine an authentic blend of two brothers harmonising with fresh songwriting ideas to craft their own signature style, sitting harmoniously between the worlds of folk, soul and pop.

In their first year pursuing music full-time, 2017 saw Ben and Jeremy take their music on a three-month tour of Spain and the US, performing their original songs to an ever-growing fanbase. Since arriving back, The Beamish Brothers have been busy collaborating with international producers, attracting the attention of labels; Knight Vision, Chill Your Mind, Mr Revillz, Czech Vibes Sound, LoudKult and Tipsy Records records to whom they have signed songs. In less than a year, their original music has received over four million streams on Spotify alone, now featuring in several Spotify Official playlists. The Beamish Brothers answer a few questions for Hi Fi Way: The Pop Chronicles.

Has it been quite a ride since going full time with music since 2017?
It definitely has! Over the years we’ve experimented with our sound, travelled the world, been ripped off a few times, learnt a tonne about the industry, changed our artist name and met so many interesting and lovely people in the process.

How have you managed the ups and downs of being in the music industry?
Having each other has definitely helped. It’s really important to have people to confide in when things don’t go well and people to celebrate with when things go amazingly, so working together as a duo has really helped in that respect.

Did you always think you would be making music with your brother?
I think music was something we got into because it was fun and a passion of ours. Once we realised how much we loved it and how lucky we were to be able to have someone to share that passion with, it became an obvious path for us.

Did it start in your bedrooms listening to all sorts of music?
For sure! Like so many musicians, it started off with an endless stream of music videos on YouTube and just jamming any chance we could get.

Who are you both inspired by?
Jeremy: Stevie Wonder, Daniel Caesar, Jessie J, H.E.R., Adele, Hozier.
Ben: George Michael, Noah Kahan, Dean Lewis and Billie Eilish

Being brothers do you argue much?
All the time! We have very different personalities actually, which is what makes the songwriting process so interesting and sometimes unpredictable.

What is the story behind the single Kills Me Every Time?
It’s about a superficial relationship that feels good on a surface level but is actually just toxic. It’s basically about giving into your emotions and falling into a rabbit hole of lust and impulsivity.

Are you both building towards an album or EP?
We are! Kills Me Every Time is one of the tracks that will be on an upcoming EP that will be released in the not too distant future!

Are you looking to tour more extensively including Adelaide?
Definitely, we would love to tour and hit up many more Australian cities. We’ve heard Adelaide has a good music scene so that’s definitely on our list of places we want to perform at.

What is the plan for The Beamish Brothers for the rest of the year?
We have a music video and an EP release coming soon, a couple tours in works which we can’t go into just yet and plenty of songs in the pipeline! It’s going to be a big year!
