Alex Lahey Announces New Single & Tour
Not one for slowing down, Alex Lahey has dropped shiny new single, Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself. It’s ripped fresh from her forthcoming second album, The Best Of Luck Club, which is set for release on May 17 via Nicky Boy Records/Caroline Australia. As well as this, Lahey is beyond excited to be taking her new stash of tunes on tour, kicking off in June and taking in six shows nationally.
Of the single, Alex says: “I wrote this song for my partner who was on tour and was feeling the fatigue and stresses of the road, as we all do. It doesn’t matter how capable or strong or resilient you may be, we all have bad days, and that’s ok. There’s nothing wrong with feeling tired after a hard day’s work and sometimes I have to remind myself of that too.”
Off the back of the success of her debut long-player, I Love You Like A Brother (2017), which peaked at #15 on the ARIA Albums Chart, and scored a Breakthrough Artist Nomination at the 2018 ARIA Awards, Lahey toured extensively both locally and internationally, and won over new fans worldwide.
After impressing viewers all around the world during her American TV debut on ‘Late Night With Seth Meyers’ in late-2017, 2018 saw Lahey booked for a string of Australian festivals including Falls, Groovin The Moo and Splendour In The Grass. Lahey also played iconic North American festivals such as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Sasquatch, Osheaga, Hangout and BottleRock, before returning home to Australia to settle down to work on her new album.
Recorded at Sing Sing studios in Melbourne, Lahey enlisted the help of Melbourne-bred, London-based producer Catherine Marks (The Wombats, Wolf Alice, Manchester Orchestra) to co-produce the album.
The result is a collection of 10 songs with irresistibly catchy hooks and Lahey’s distinctly candid lyricism. The songwriter and multi-instrumentalist assured second album once again giving a voice to millennial ennui.
