Ben Lee Releases New Single ‘Positive Energy’
Currently on a huge regional and capital city tour across the country, Australian icon Ben Lee has today released one of his most favourite songs written to date Positive Energy, and official video clip in collaboration with creative mastermind Byron Spencer.
From first listen it’s clear that Positive Energy is destined to be a Ben Lee classic and instant fan favourite. Pairing a storyline that’s a little bit emotionally complicated with an uplifting and chantable chorus, Positive Energy hits the same sweet spot of Cigarettes Will Kill You and Catch My Disease – instant hits that balance personal heartbreak with community celebration. Talking on the new single, Ben Lee explains “’Positive Energy’ is a really vulnerable song for me. It’s about the pressure I have felt from others (and put on myself) to always be the happy guy, the glass half full guy, the positive guy. In present times, it’s not easy. Like anyone, I get dragged down in despair and depression sometimes, and even succumb to feeling doomed. But at the end of the day, I still aspire to give off good vibez, to be inspired and to inspire others. And that’s really the best I can do.”
To celebrate the release of the new single Ben Lee has teamed up for a second time with acclaimed photographer, musician, artist, creative and good friend Byron Spencer (DEEPFAITH) for the official music video for Positive Energy. Speaking on the official video clip Ben says “Byron is amazing to work with. He creates such an exciting and spontaneous, playful experience. We just got together and rigged a go pro to me and then wandered around Sydney at night, into night-clubs, restaurants, go karting, walking in and out of cinemas, with no permits or permission, but no-one seemed to mind. I guess they felt the positive energy!” The duo teamed up to create the interactive video clip for So Damn Hard (To Be So Damn Good), shooting Ben skipping and dancing his way through Sydney’s Kings Cross on a 360 camera that viewers could toggle to any angle when viewed online.
It’s been a huge year for one of Australia’s busiest artists. Ben recently jumped on stage with the Terry’s at as a surprise guest to perform their Like A Version and Ben Lee original Catch My Disease together, and last weekend joined fellow icon Missy Higgins on stage at the State Theatre for a stunning full circle moment to perform Laid by James together – a song they first covered on tour together back in 2005. Over the last few months there has been a lot of noise generated about Ben online for being super vocal about the Australian music industry and highlighting local artists, as well as a recent video posted by Australian creator Breakfast Shirts from Ben’s Ulladulla show going viral picking up over 235K views on instagram, and 517K views on TikTok.
With zero signs of slowing down, Ben will be continuing his never-ending tour with another bunch of regional dates to be announced shortly. Tickets for his upcoming headline shows are on sale now at https://www.ben-lee.com/tour-dates.
