Teddy Swims, Meg Mac @ Hindley Street Music Hall, Adelaide 17/7/2024

Hindley Street Music Hall was full to the brim for Teddy Swim’s sold out Adelaide show! Before making his way to the West Coast for the final leg of his Australian tour, he made sure to bring the house down for his South Australian fans. Here I’ll unpack everything, from what was thrown at him on stage, to what he did that had fans screaming.

The show kicked off with Aussie artist, Meg Mac and her band, which she often pointed out included her sister, Hannah. The girls were so delighted to be on tour opening up for Teddy, and you could really feel the love in the room. Meg performed hits such as Maybe It’s My First Time and Roll Up Your Sleeves as her fans swayed and sang along to the lyrics in the front row. Meg Mac suited the vibe perfectly, with a vocal range that could give Ted a run for his money.

After a wholesome, fairly chill opening act, it was time for the main man himself to claim the stage. Out came the guy whose name is on everybody’s lips (and radio), Teddy Swims. Dressed casually in shorts, a tucked white tee and a silky jacket he picked up in Canggu, he oozed style. The first thing he did was slip off his trainers, immediately making the audience feel like we were getting a truly authentic experience. He looked comfortable and at ease, cruising around the stage in his crew socks as if he were walking around in his own home.

Known for his insane runs, he belted out some of his most beloved songs, including Bed on Fire, Broke and Devil In A Dress. One lady in the crowd over-excitedly launched her sunnies to the star, who then picked them up to realise they were shaped like a huge pink butterfly. He wore them for an entire song, asking ‘do I look stupid?’ to which he received a firm thumbs up. Giggling away Teddy did something nobody expected, and much to her surprise, the lady was then thrown his bright red sunnies in return. Fans threw some weird things though, including a packet of baby wipes, which he politely threw back.

There was not a dry eye in the house when he so lovingly sang Amazing and Some Things I’ll Never Know. He dedicated his cover of Shania Twain’s You’re Still The One to his mum, who he expressed he was missing terribly. I decided to FaceTime my mum during this rendition and pointed her towards Teddy, who came closer and personally gave her a wave. As his biggest fan, watching through a phone in the UK, she began to cry. It was a beautiful, touching moment which many others witnessed and adored.

Halfway through his set, the American singer seemingly walked off stage, which had fans questioning what was going on. Chanting began… ‘Teddy, Teddy, Teddy!’ and no lie, within less than sixty seconds he was back. It turns out, performers really need to pee too. And going off of the amount of Fiji water her was downing, it really was no surprise.

The show wrapped up with arguably his biggest songs Lose Control and finally, The Door. An explosive way to end the show with clouds of colourful confetti, smoke machines blasting and his guitarists going wild.

I will never forget the performance put on by Teddy Swims on that fine Wednesday night. The I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy Tour is the best show I’ve seen in a long, long time. I appreciate the love, the thought and the energy that was put into this production. And, I’m super jealous of everyone that was thrown guitar picks, set lists and drumsticks. But we won’t get into that.

If you have the chance to watch him perform, this is a must-see tour. Catch Teddy Swims at Riverside Theatre in Perth for his next performance or regret it forevermore.
