Never ones to do things by halves, Fanning Dempsey National Park have announced a new Brisbane show (The Tivoli, Saturday November 9) to ‘The Deluge 2024’ following sold out shows in Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth. In addition, they have revealed the second taste of their debut album, the title track The Deluge and its accompanying video, directed by Alex Badham.
Fanning Dempsey National Park have also announced MERPIRE as the tour support on all dates. The tour follows the August 2 release of The Deluge (Dew Process/UMA), produced by Craig Silvey (Arctic Monkeys, Sam Fender, The National, Florence and The Machine).
Title track, The Deluge emerged from Fanning’s experiment with monochromatic rhythm and vocal melody, coloured by Dempsey’s wild spasms of treated guitar and synth.
Bernard Fanning and Paul Dempsey said, “Delving deeper into this new project with the title track single The Deluge, we can continue to share the fun we’ve been having creating this album. If we’re having fun now, wait until you hear the rest of the record and we bring it live onstage, with a brand new band, for the tour in October!”.
For The Deluge video, Fanning and Dempsey flew to Berlin to again work with video director Alex Badham, who also directed the video for lead single Disconnect.
Badham said, “I’ve spent a lot of my life staring at the fantastic designs in Berlin’s subway stations and have been wanting to incorporate them into something trippy and strange for quite some time. Putting these designs into party mode for The Deluge seemed like a fun thing to do, so I whipped up an early version of this idea and sent it over. Paul and Bernard’s response was “This is cool, we should come to Berlin and be in it”. So they hopped on a flight and we had one of the most low-stress shoots of all time. Wandering around subway stations and knocking off with some beer and currywurst. 267 hours of animation work later, and here we are!”
The Deluge album will be available on limited edition 180gm coloured vinyl. Transparent blue from the official store, transparent yellow at JB HiFi, and transparent green across Indies and retailers. Since The Deluge 2024 national run of shows was announced, new shows have already been added in Melbourne (Forum, Sunday 20 October) and Perth (Astor Theatre, Thursday 31 October) taking in eight shows across five cities.
